vortec4800
What is torque management exactly? From what I can tell, its something in the transmission and it slows down our trucks. What do the values mean and how does it work?
Shaners
Torque mgmnt. will not let full throttle be applied under certain conditions, like from a dead stop. GM has this software in the computer to help longevity of the driveline etc... I'm waiting for my new PCM from Westers Garage. It will have total "torque management" defeat, and I'm anxious to see what this puppy will really do!!!
MarkD
It is a torque governor in the engine management computer. Imagine those drivers ed. cars with the extra set of controls for the instructor...Too fast, I'll hit the brakes for you...
1BADHD
You can NEVER totally rid of TM. You can reduce it by 99%, but some will alsways be there. TM=
MoJo
Also, at WOT, TM retards the engine timing to reduce stress on the drive train during the shift.
vortec4800
Ah I see, well thanks for clearing that up guys!
bigtruck21
What I don't understand is why westers thinks that by eliminating TM, it will prolong the drivetrain. I understand it could possibly prolong the tranny with faster shifts/less heat, but he also stated drivetrain.
vortec4800
Well I know I can't speak for everyone here, but I'm gonna take whatever performance I can suck out of this thing for the next year or so, then sell it and buy a BMW M3 to have some real fun, so I say goodbye to TM, increase the stress on my driveline, and leme have some fun while it lasts
MoJo
The more power and torque, the more load, stress, whatever, on the drive train. A faster, quicker shift will add life to the trans by eliminating most of the slippage, which causes heat and wear. But, the harder, quicker shift add more load to the drivetrain beyond the tranny. Removing TM elevates this. Normally, that would not be a big issue. But, do as one guy did, put 35" tires on a 1500 4X4 with 3.76 gears and a 350hp+ engine and HE wonders why he burns-up/breaks things!
