New the site. Just purchased this 2018 red quartz Sierra 1500 Z71 SLT crew cab. Love it. When should I get first oil change?

Welcome! lots of good info on the site, I typically change every 3,500-4,000 miles but everyone is different.

Welcome! This thread has some good debates/discussions on when you should have your first oil change. I like to get my first change a little before the manufacturer's recommendation. I highly recommend you read your owner's manual cover to cover to give you a good baseline knowledge of your truck. Enjoy your new truck!

If it was my truck, before the first 1 k miles.

There after, every 3 k miles.

My fathers advice:

"You can't change to often.

You can change not nearly enough.

But even if you never change it, keep full".

Dad actually changes every 2500 on conventional and 7500 on synthetic.

Uncle Bob has (had) a million mile flathead on one rebuild with conventional and 2K changes.

Myself:

Conventional? I'm with Diyer2 but if full Synthetic...1K, 5k and 5K every time after.

I think the point is use a quality oil and change it religiously. Filter too.

You probably should get it changed within the first 1000 miles... There on after I follow the computer in the truck, when it says 20% oil life left, I take it to the Chevy dealer and let them change it with the standard dexos oil they recommend... I quit DIYing it years ago because I couldn't really save much more than $10 per oil change and it wasn't worth getting my hands dirty or assuming the liability of doing it myself on a machine I just plunked $43k on... However when I was DIYing it I would use mobil 1 and change it every 6-7k miles but, the last care I did that with was my old 2011 Mazda 3....
