Seems like it was mentioned on Truck Fast Line . Is this thread pretty much speculation about what is coming or going ?

Tom Bodett is building a new Motel 6 to house all these rumors. Rumor is the stock is cheap.

All the information is not available on Truck Fast Line and it is fun to speculate! I doubt anyone of us will hear the full story.   I believe GM's research team may have a better grasp on how to sell trucks than may appear.  They are probably a generation or two ahead in their thinking.  I personally believe technology like DFM may challenge the need for a V8.  I read that the 5.3 and 6.2 will have the DFM  which suggests the Diesel will not.  If they do offer a 6 cyl gas  will it have DFM or stick with AFM?   Would the lack of DFM on a 6cyl  make it more appealing?   The suggestion that a 6 gas will be relegated to fleet sales and/or work trucks is where they send features to die.   GM has a history of phasing out their features that have a loyal but small fan base.  Maintaining two V8's in the current line up is a marketing strategy and it will be interesting to see how this plays out.

The difference between equally equipped trucks '09 and '16 in power and mpg would be noticeable.  The trucks your friend is comparing would be significantly different or there is a malfunction in the newer truck.

I just test drove a 5.3 with 3:42 gears over the weekend and it felt slow. I have to agree with my friend.

Fortunately I owned a '09 with a 5.3 and 3.42 while shopping for my '15.  I found the 4.3 a good match.  The newer 5.3 was a considerable difference when driven back to back with my '09.  If you had your friend's stock '09 with 3.42 gears and drove it right after your weekend drive your conclusion would be different.

That’s funny, when I bought my 14 GMC I was there to buy an left over Denali. The 14 5.3 seemed to be just as powerful as the 13 6.2, probably because they had reg gas in it. I ended finding out that the 14 could gain HP on E-85. Didn’t think ether one was slow.

My friend had a 09 and traded it in for a 2016 last year both 5.3's and he says the 09 felt like it had more power.

Lingenfelter tested a 2014 Silverado 5.3 with 3.08's against a 2010 Silverado 5.3 with 3.42's. The 2014 with 3.08's was faster in the 1/4-mile.

It would be interesting if someone had this data readily available for the 4.3.  It wouldn't surprise me if the numbers were pretty similar to the 2010 5.3.   I don't get too excited about race track time measurements for a pick up truck but they do serve as a more objective measurement than "feel".

I remember back in 94 when I bought my last impala of many. I bought all the magazines associated with the the second fastest impala ever according to hot rod magazine. How fast you ask, 0-60 7.2, 1/4 mile 15 sec. I laugh when people say anything is slow these days.

Please keep in mind that many factors can deviate performance data listed along with engine specifications. Chevrolet Silverado 0-60, 1/4 mile, engine specs, and gas mileage data have been collected from different sources. We do not guarantee accuracy of performance data, mile per gallon, other data listed on the website. Chevrolet Silverado 0 to 60 times will depend on road condition, tire trend, extra weight, type of fuel (for some cars) and many other factors. Gas mileage will depend on the previous factors as well as your driving habits. Our main goal is to provide easy to follow website that combines performance and specs for each new and used car since year 2000, with few exceptions. If some vehicles are not updated yet, make sure that we are working on it. Chevrolet Silverado zero to 60 times and other specs are constantly reviewed, but not error-proof. We constantly add new data as new car models are being updated each year. Like Autorooster.com on Facebook and Google+ for more news and updates. Feel free to report any problem with Chevrolet Silverado 0-60 and other specs.

That looks more like it.

I've never really tried to race my truck 0 - 100 (60), but 9.2 sec seemed a little off to me.

I think my truck, 5.3, 4x4, 3.42, ext cab, reg bed can do better. Again, I've never really tested it.

so long

The last impala I modified was a 74. I put a 454, 700R4 over drive trans and a 373 rear gear in the late 80s for my wife. A nice street car that ran high 13s. The mind set was it had to be a big engine to run good. Times have changed.
