diesel for 19

Can’t wait to hear the sound of the inline 6 turbo diesel! I know it’s considerably smaller but hopefully it has a similar sound to the 5.9 Cummins. The inline 4 and v6 diesels sound horrible imo and v8 diesels sound so so, there’s just something about that inline 6 sound I’ve always loved.

personally dont have much interest in a half ton diesel, I've driven and towed with a 1500 with a 6.2 and it is a great motor that yields decent MPG for what it is.. a 3.0L diesel with complicated emissions wouldn't be any better the a 6.2

One thing for sure is that there is probably going to be ton of issues with the new Dmax.  First year out and all new design, if it doesn't have little quirks here and there then that would be a good thing.

Think a diesel effort in a 1/2 ton is a step in the right direction but very disappointed it will not be the 4.5L V8 Duramax.   Is the conformist mentality too ingrained at GM?  Overall I am underwhelmed as the V8 diesel would have easily outperformed the Ford and Ram offerings.  Who cares if it would have been 2-3 mpgs less efficient.

GM needs to step up their entire game. From mediocre transmission shifts to frankly, an underpowered 5.3..... I don’t see them competing with the 1/2 Ton diesel market. Prices go up every time I turn around. Quality stays the same.

Yes I have one, but ... questionable if I’d buy another.

Am sure GM(along with Ford & Ram) receives CAFE credits or something along those lines via EPA for higher mpg's on a half ton diesel. Am thinking that is the line Nissan used when pushing their XD line & a 5.0L Cummins diesel. Nissan is exempt from EPA fuel economy ratings due to size of the truck. GM already has a 2500/3500 line up that are exempt from the same. Know there are a lot of people still wanting that 4.5L Dmax that was shelved years ago. But with EPA regs & costs, would not ever think it will make its way off the shelf into a half ton.

Someone else mentioned complicated exhaust emissions systems. The cost of those systems along with providing warranty is what drives the cost on these things.

So what would be a good reason to get the diesel engine?  Like outside of an enthusiast that loves trucks, which consumer should this be targeted at?  Someone who tows a lot so you can get good low end torque maybe?  I guess we still need to see the numbers but maybe someone who drives a lot and it can get better MPG's than the gas counterparts?  If you're on the road every day for your job, a Ram that gets 30 mpg makes more sense than a Silverado that gets 21 mpg.

Chevrolet needs to capitalize on the fact that Ford is going to offer their 1500 Powerstroke in higher trim levels only.  I'm sure some companies would like this, but wouldn't buy a bunch of King Ranchs for their business.

I considered an SLT Duramax Canyon, but the cost was on par with The Silverado I ended up with, and with the rebates I got on the 1/2 ton, the Canyon ended up being way more, for less truck.  Add in the (usually) more expensive fuel, $200 to change fuel filters, and the complete frikken mess of an emissions system, I'll take the gas V8 every time. As far as towing, I was pleasantly surprised by the 5.3 with how well it worked, and the fuel economy it got. I average almost 4000km a month, and I'm extremely happy with it

AMEN.

Look at all the diesel offerings in Europe...

We dont get any of the good stuff that they get as far as cars/performance in relation to diesel.

EPA restricts the crap out of the potential of these engines.

I have never priced them for a canyon, and I don't by them at the dealer,  but I've been using the the correct ACDelco fuel filters for the 6.6 for about 10 years.  Their cost is nowhere near that number and the operating cost per mile they add is insignificant compared to all the other costs of ownership and operation.

I can’t wait to learn more about the Diesel engine. For one I hope the ECM isn’t locked like on the L5P. It’ll also be very interesting to see how the mpg ratings are with it mated to the new 10 speed. Ideally I’d love to be able to order a 2019 Trailboss loaded out to a LTZ with the Diesel engine and a standard bed. Hopefully we’ll see this engine carried over the following year into the Tahoe and Yukon lineup.
