Rear air vents!

Well, back when I had the 2005 I was hauling my three kiddos around too. Now, I’m hauling my two grandchildren around (time does fly). So, the rear HVAC has become important again. As you, I’m going to wait for the 2019 as it supposedly is on a new frame along with some other new features. And, I’m probably going to try out the magnetic ride option and see how well it performs. I occasionally tow a 6,000 lb TT so I’ll stay with the 6.2L which in mho is the best gas burner on the market for towing. Anyway, my two bits ?.

Those vents under the seat (2014+) that some people are mentioning only blow air when the ac controller is set to floor or split. They do not work in normal/front ac mode.

Having true rear vents make a significant difference for the back passengers.

I had a 2005 CCSB GMT800 truck with rear vents in the console, its the exact same the rear vents will only get air if set to floor for the rear passengers, you not moving enough air, GMT800 cooling system was horrible, today cooling down the cab with the current system is fine.

If want to make a difference with the rear passengers install ceramic window tint. & sound deaden/insulate your truck especially the damn roof.

The lack of rear vents almost made me buy the redesigned Tundra back in 2013.

Also, as you know here in Texas, one of the first mods is to install window tint. Heck, sometimes my arm still gets sunburned with it, so don't want to imagine what it would be without it.

ceramic... worth every penny! regular ol carbon/metalized tint doesn't hold a candle to ceramic tint.

I remember when I filled out the GMC new vehicle survey on my 2014 Sierra CC, the only 2 areas I marked unsatisfactory were the lack of rear air vents and the dim headlights. Only took GMC 5 years to finally install rear air vents. Them engineering boys can be slow!

Lol, yup, it does get hot here in Texas. About the AC situation and the two camps on this thread; the pro rear vent vs the anti rear vent groups. I’ve had vehicles configured each way. Concerning the Silverado specifically, I agree that the entire cab will cool sufficiently with front only vents. However, the problem with not having the rear vents is with temperature balance. In order to adequately cool the folks in the back seat the folks in the front have to endure the AC set on max cool going full blast. At least thats the way it is here in the summer in Texas when temps are routinely 100+ degrees. So, how about we agree on a little compromise (can’t we all just get along ? ?) and allow GM to install rear ac vents as standard in the high-end models such as LTZ/SLT and Denali/HighCountry and not install in the less expensive models unless ordered as an option? How about that boys and girls? Will that work ??

I have a gmt800 avalanche so it may be different but the console vents do indeed work on settings other than floor.

My Nissan Titan had rear A/C vents and heated seat for the rear passengers. My wife's 2016 Tahoe has good hvac and other basic amenities that I just assumed the 2018 Silverado would have so I didn't think to look. It's my own fault for assuming things, but the fact is, putting up with a hot truck would have made the growing list of things to cause people to bypass the Chevy Silverado.

In the event anyone is curious; the pic I attempted to post was of President Eisenhower’s 1956 Continental Mark II. Specifically, the pic was an interior shot showing AC vents in the headliner over the rear seats. I believe 1956 May have been the last year that AC unit was in the trunk but not sure.

@camcamaro1991dude you know your s**t!! I was just reading this entire post and you definitely know about vents and all lol you think it’d be possible to modify those floor vents and route them into the console? I’m sure someone would be happy to design a vent plate for that console layout lol
