The typical recalls of course, I got those too. but some others are:

1) AC Condenser went out on me 400 miles from home on a 102 degree day

2) AC/Vented seats have broken 4x I think, maybe 5, but they keep fixing it because it keeps re-breaking within the 1 year warranty of them fixing it.

3) Heated seats have broken 3x, same as above they keep fixing it

4) Navi screen stopped working, HMI cable

5) Radiator busted, think this was a recall but had issues before the recall came out

6) Exhaust squeak, from flapper valve, replaced 2x and keeps coming back, just gave up them fixing it thinking I'll either get a new truck or get an exhaust

7) burns 1.5 - 2 quarts of oil every 3,000 miles

8) Hood release cable broke

9) Rusting frame is the worst I've seen Pics in the Rusting Frame thread

10) shocks are completely shot, currently at 63,000 miles but they were shot a while ago

11) Shakes from about 77-82mph and on long hauls its beyond annoying

With all that said, I love the looks of the truck, but disappointing how many times it's breaking. The major concern I have now is the amount of oil it drinks and wondering if I am in for something more serious down the road. I do Mobil 1 Full synthetic DEXOS every 6,000 miles, and around the 3,000 mile mark I'm adding approx 2qrts.

Ouch. I hear guys always saying first years are a no go but I haven't experienced too many annoyances. Most of mine come from my own modifications haha.. But it sounds like you might have gotten a bad apple. Now that you mention it, I did remember my drivers side heated seat doesn't work. Fortunately I haven't had an issue with my A/C going out as so many other guys have, knock on wood.

I agree with you though, it's a bit discerning wanting to love your truck but when it constantly throws crap at your face it's hard to. Here's hoping the newer models don't have too many issues, but only time will tell. With all these new fancy electronics, I'm sure something will go.

Well said, And with all these electronics, I find it bitter sweet as I love the technology, but find I can no longer work on them like I used to be able to do back in the day.

It's definitely a bit of a double edged sword. Alas, this is the future we're heading into, but that's the price we pay for wanting nice things. There's a reason they don't call em mechanics at my dealership, they call em technicians. These new trucks are computers now. I'm sure you, like I, also have a 6 speed and maybe I'm being biased but nothing will compare to the smoothness of that transmission. I say that somewhat jokingly as GM's 6 speed has never been widely praised for there smooth shifting, but compared to the 8 speeds I've driven. I'll keep the 6. I can only hope the new 10 speed is a good as some reviewers have claimed it to be (in the tahoe or cadillac, or even the f150's).

There is one thing about the new crew cab trucks that has me bugged a bit.  Not bad, but still makes me think.  These wheel bases are 4 inches longer.  That HUGH!  I'm sure the ride quality will be much better.  But the maneuverability is most definitely going to suffer.  Makes me wish they'd bring the 4 wheel steering idea back to life.  I wonder how much the turning radius has grown???

GM adjusted the steering geometry on the new trucks.  The turning circle is actually a little SMALLER than the previous generation.

How many of your issues were directly related to "these electronics"?  From what I can see in the posts, the electronics appear to be the least of the problems. People are quick to blame the parts they don't understand.

never blamed the electronics on whats not working and whats causing my issues. just miss the good ole days when i could work on cars a bit easier. Where did I blame the parts I dont understand for the issues I'm having? Never once did i blame electronics for causing oil consumption, or my shakes, or my ac going out, or my heated seats for not working, or my exhaust flapper valve...

An inline 6 diesel in a half tonne sounds like the ultimate setup. MPG and HP mods will catch on very quickly if the truck is priced reasonably.

HP and TQ specs, along with payload and tow ratings will determine whether I take the plunge. That being said, I too will never buy first year again.

 keep the diesel updates coming!!

As I stated I spent many years driving diesels when they first came out to the early 2000s. My job change and started driving 1/2 tons. My father drives a pristine 98 Ram, my mother a semi pristine 2000 Ford diesel they wouldn’t give them up. Yes I test drive every new model when they come out. I get flashbacks of merging on the freeway trying to merge not being able to get up to speed before your on the freeway. Then stoping to get fuel, the gas pumps will be empty the couple diesel pumps will be combo pumps with gas vehicles pumping gas. The 3/4 and up diesels are fine now, with they exception of the emissions that’s a different topic. Now there’s no real savings in buying diesel fuel, gas 1/2 tons get good fuel mileage for trucks. Their performance rivals muscle cars of the past. I’m still wondering what the advantages are of a diesel in a 1/2 ton.

So you are comparing a modern half ton diesel to a 98 ram and a 2000 ford diesel.  Thanks for proving my point.

12) had issues when on the highway just cruising the RPMS will scream near redline and then catch itself

13) every time it shifts between V8 and V4 it revs my RPMS by about 500. doesn't seem like much, but i feel I'm in tune with the car and feel pulsing

Wow sounds like you had the the cream of the crop when it comes to lemons. My 2014 has been great so far. Granted, I turned off AFM by 1200 miles. Zero oil consumption. I had the radiator leak but I'm fairly certain nearly everyone had the radiator leak thanks to the thermostat cycling way too often. Which plant was your truck built at out of curiosity. I have a Fort Wayne (Indiana) truck. If I bought a first year truck, it'd have to be a Fort Wayne truck. Apparently they won JD Powers award for highest rated manufacturing quality.

The antenna is definitely one thing that I don't like . If it was dead center near the rear of the roof,  it would look great. Also, they should have made the diesel a 4.0 or a little larger.

Considering the power numbers that shops are getting out of the little 2.8 Duramax, the 3.0 I6 should be a lot of fun for a little diesel.

I don’t think I mentioned anything about reliability. I believe in an early post I mentioned I was part of a family business and we still use diesels and the 3/4 ton and up were much better as far as drivability. Although I mentioned that now emissions come into play, and that was a different debate. As far as earlier drivability, we modified usually with Banks and gear venders. We modified everything, even if was just a tune. If the GM 1/2 ton diesels has 300HP with the added gears in the transmission they wouldn’t be as bad as the early diesels. They could easily get the HP up, tuners will their chasing fuel mileage. So what point of yours was I proving?

Yes, but it won't out perform the Ford 3.6 without being so hopped up and always " hot" that it will ultimately  wear out faster than a gas  engine. I still say a 4.0 done right without being a race engine would be the best of both worlds (enough power for towing , fuel mileage, and durability).

Here is a list of all the released specs for the new engine:

Displacement - 3.0L

I fail to see where it says the 3.0 has less power than the 3.6.  Or where it says anything other than the GM rep saying he is "confident" it will outperform the competition.
