I just watched the youtube video about the new Silverados.

I was surprised by the number of commenters who stated that they would not buy it because it still had a column shifter instead of a shifter in the console.

I don't get that.  Think of how much space you loose in the console by putting a shifter there.  It is a truck, I kind of like still having the shifter on the column.  Maybe those idiots would prefer a rotary knob like Range Rover uses...

The antenna is definitely one thing that I don't like . If it was dead center near the rear of the roof,  it would look great. Also, they should have made the diesel a 4.0 or a little larger.

X2 on both.

I owned a 2000 Z71 and I've had 3 Company trucks (01, 05 and 07) and everyone of them rattled and squeaked. The only thing the GMT800 had going for it was the driveline. Other than that, it had a cheap interior and even cheaper brake lines.

And before anyone says, "well they were company trucks and probably abused", they were mine from new and they were Foreman trucks. Never abused.

I had a '00 half ton, '04.5 & '07 one ton & never an interior issue with squeaks or rattles. Well aside from the speedometer failing in the '04, which seemed pretty common on those trucks for some reason.

Agree on the antenna. Not sure about the need for a 4.0 or larger diesel. There's only so much you can do with a half ton anyways.

If you need that much power it's probably best to go to a 3/4 ton with the 6.6 dmax anyways

One thing I disliked about the early diesels I drove was acceleration, they pulled well, merging into traffic was a challenge. They need more HP.

GM's Inline 6 Duramax will probably be 300HP and 500tq purposely built for towing, working etc great for contractors!  Obviously only so much a 1/2 ton can do hopefully GM beefs all four corners up on it with ratings that make notice....It could very well be the perfect beast?  If your needing more 3/4's are just getting crazy that should about suffice anybody towing anything really?

ok here me out first.  I sat in my BIL's(brother in law's)2018 Ford King Ranch.  I have to give them props on the interior even thought it is very similar to the 2014 High Country.  The panoramic sunroof, 360 deg camera system, and massaging chairs was nice!  Now five years ago I would have laughed at the massaging chairs (I did with the heated seats). As I'm getting older - they are WELL needed.

Another item should be included - adaptive cruise control

don't kick me out of here...I didn't drive it.

Funny how GM is playing catch-up in the light truck diesel competition! Facts are more than likely this particular 3.0 L diesel engine is an import from someplace in Southeast Asia! With that said it didn't have to be, GM could've been 1st of the big 3 to adapt a diesel engine to their light truck line in 2008, and have it not only be something special but manufactured in the United States. Virtually 10 years before anybody else yet they still continue to waste time until it was virtually too late to be the head of the pack.

Shift knob is on the dash on the new Ram truck as well.

Interesting choice of words. But, which is it? Do you have facts or are you just guessing?

As of now, GM is specifically listing the motor as all-new. Not all new to North America or the United States, all-new. So unless there are further details stating this engine is derived from somewhere else, we should probably stick with all-new. Link below...

Have honestly not heard of a GM  3.0L inline 6 diesel roaming around in any articles anywhere over the years. There is an Isuzu 3.0L in Australia, but it is a 4 cyl. See second link.

GM shelved the 4.5L Dmax when they filed for bankruptcy. The engine was not spoken about much publicly, though it has reached near iconic status. It would be virtually impossible to keep the existence of this motor quiet if it were in production for any other on-road vehicle anywhere on the planet.

"The Silverado will also be available with an all-new Duramax 3.0L inline-six turbo-diesel. Chevrolet offers diesel engines in more segments and models than any other brand, including Equinox, Cruze, Colorado, Express, Silverado 1500, Silverado HD and upcoming Silverado medium-duty models.

Both the 3.0L diesel and 6.2L engines are paired with a new Hydra-Matic 10-speed automatic transmission as well as start/stop technology to improve fuel economy for optimum performance and efficiency."

In the family business we had three 6.5s. One in a 1/2 ton, one in a dually and one in a 3/4 ton 4WD. The engines did well for the time mid 90s we kept them all to 100K miles. Our problems with GM at the time was transmission related. That engine worked real good in the 1/2 ton.
