2017 Silverado front end to 2015 front end

Recommended Posts

To each their own., I’ve done the swap just because I wanted to prove to myself that I could do, at first I didn’t like the 16 front end but now I love it the led lights are a major improvement to the 14-15 headlights but it doesn’t mean you can’t see at night because their halogen. My truck looks 10 times better than a lot of trucks out there and even though is a 16 front end every part, even the screws are gm oem parts. You can’t tell if my truck is actually a 15, so if you can swap from 15 to 16 or 16 to 15 who gives a ****!!?? I’m not planning on selling my truck, resale topic is futile. If you can’t say anything positive about someone else choices, not saying anything will make you smarter.

I have no problem with what you did.  Going from a '15 to a '16 is actually cool and props to you for a nice job.  I like it!  As I said, I wouldn't go from a '16 to a '15 (backwards).  That's my opinion.  As for you saying "If you can’t say anything positive about someone else choices, not saying anything will make you smarter.", well... this a forum and it's the nature of the beast.  People share there topics, opinions, likes, dislikes and that's what a forum is about.  I'm a member of many truck, motorcycle and gun forums and that's what you get.  If everybody would agree on everything, all would like the same color trucks, then there would be no need for a forum.   Some choose fashion over function and some function over fashion.  Some say the crew short is ugly and some say the ext. reg is ugly.   Some say Summit white is too "utility/commercial"  looking and some hate black.  Some like lowered 2 wheel drives while some like raised 4X4's.   Some members here voice that they like the Sierra better and don't like the Silverado.  As long as there's no personal name calling I see nothing wrong with it.  And as for you telling someone not to post their opinion, it ain't happening.  You will never stop someone from voicing there opinion and saying why they don't like black wheels or someone saying why they don't like chrome wheels.  If you don't like what you read, move on to the next  thread or post.  It's a forum and it is what it is bud.

I support OP's desire to roll back to the '15. I too enjoy the classic look of the stacked headlights and consider this mod for my own 16 from time to time. Some of you argue that the headlights will under perform compared to the '16 and '17. That might be true if you use the projector lenses from '15 (they are terrible). If you go with the classic reflector lenses as shown in the picture, I bet they would outperform the '16 and '17 with a decent halogen bulb. In my experience, reflector lenses are far better than any of the stock projectors I have seen.

Your point is taken and is your opinion. Some have other views and that's the greatness of a forum to read different views and opinions. I couldn't be happier with my 16' projector HID's, LED DRL's and LED fogs. Just curious though, if you like the '15 style better why didn't you just buy a '15 instead of a '16? When the '16's started surfacing there were still tons of '15's out there at big discounted prices. Buying a '15 instead would've saved the time, labor and thousands of dollars rather than buying a more expensive '16 and spending so much money and time trying to make it look like an older year model. Kinda pointless...

Can't say I blame you, the new style Chevy stole their design cues from a Honda CRV. I like the 14-15 GMC's better than the new ones, but I like the new Chevy front end over the 14-15 Chevy's. I like them all better than the new 2019 Chevy Forderado Tundra edition. Good luck with the swap, most certainly do-able.

But I guess what I just don’t understand is… why not just buy a 2015 if you liked that style better?

I tried. I spent several months looking for a pickup. The problem is that I am too damn picky. Criteria for a suitable purchase:

Make: Chevrolet (I don't care for the Sierra front end, plus I knew this wouldn't be easily swappable)

Model: Silverado 1500

Trim: LTZ Z71(had to settle for LT on this one)

Odometer: <52,000

Drive Train: 4WD (will not own 2WD)

Color: Summit White (would not settle on anything else)

Cab: Double (would not settle on anything else)

Price: <$31,000

Not from Texas (hurrican truck)

There were plenty of crew cabs out there, but I didn't want that short of a box, and I don't want a long bed. I found one Sierra that fit the build pretty well, but I stuck with the Silverado because I already knew the front would be swappable for 2014-2015 parts and I could get rid of projectors. That wouldn't work on the Sierra. I found a few others that were close, but the dealers didn't want to sell them at a reasonable price. I'm not going to pay $3,000 over market value for something just because the dealer is stubborn. I ended up with a 2016 that matches most of my criteria. It is an LT, but it only had 42,000 on the odometer and I paid like $27k. If I could have snagged a low mile 14-15 for the right price I totally would have.

Although I think it would be pretty neat, I think most of you are right. It would only hurt the resale value, and be a pain in the butt. The hood and grille wouldn't be hard to swap, but I'm sure the headlights have different harnesses, and it would be pretty silly to go chopping wires on a mostly new truck that currently has no issues.

Never thought someone would want to go backwards...can the 04 2500 “cat eyes” swap to my 17 1500

That would be cool but never have seen it but doesn't mean you can't. With enough money or fabrication skills anything is possible

When I buy a vehical I have to be the first owner and as you know they don't make that body style anymore so next best thing see if the two trucks can have a face swap, which they do thanks to this forum and they reason behind not wanting to own a car that's been used I don't know what's been done or how it was treated, it may sound dumb but it's just how I am.

Can you change the front end from a 2017 Silverado to the front end of the 2015? The 17 front looks bad in my mind. Does anyone know or have tried?

What parts need to be swapped for the conversion to work?
