New guy from Canada...

Greetings guys and gals.  As the title states, I'm from the province of Ontario, Canada .  I live just north of Toronto.  I currently don't own a pickup.  Life took a major detour about 12 years ago.  My family sold our cottage, I got married, soon after the toys went away.... No snowmobile , boat, no need for a truck.  My last rig was a 1998 GMC Sierra K1500 extended cab, 6 1/2 ' box.  Yeah, so I guess a lot has changed when it comes to the latest and greatest in trucks.  I'm really missing having a truck;. as a homeowner and father of two young ones, there are times when it would really come in handy.  Just can't see myself in a minivan, in laws got that covered.   So I wanted to post this question :. Are you generally happy with your purchase ?  Any regrets ?   I definitely want to go with a 1500 crew cab short box, as double cab may be to tight for kids.  I like the look of the All terrain with the monochromatic paint and not to much chrome, although I'm not really sure about the grey leather with red stitching.   Which leads me to this last question ?  Is the Sierra Denali that much more special ?  For the extra money ?  The 6.2 motor vs the 5.3 ? Fuel economy?   Sorry for the long post and many questions, I've seen and read many pics, posts with your trucks and they're absolutely gorgeous .  Looking forward to hearing from ya all....

Welcome from a fellow Canuck,

I have owned four of the latest K2 generation of GM trucks. I have owned both double cab and Crew cab, 5.3 and 6.2 Configurations. First off I can whole hardheartedly recommend either a Chev or GMC 1500 all of mine have performed flawless no issues squeaks rattles or anything. My opinion is if you have a couple young ones the Crew cab is definitely a good option, double cab is not bad but the extra space is really nice in the crew models.

The 6.2 vs 5.3 question for me would come down to your intended use, the 6.2 returns basically the same fuel mileage as the 5.3 but its nearly a 3k option and you really should be running premium in it so there is the extra cost associated with that. Also unloaded tooling around town or down the highway you really wont notice a difference as the 5.3 is not an under powered motor at all. If you are someone who tows regularly or you just have a bit of a lead foot and enjoy rolling on the accelerator regularly then you will probably dig the 6.2's extra grunt it definitely moves my enclosed trailer and boat with more authority then my last 5.3.

I agree with you on the nice look of the all terrain model, I dont mind the red contrast stitching I think the bigger thing for you to consider is if you are wanting the Cooled Seats, that was a big want for me on my truck and the all terrain leather is not perforated and therefore cannot be optioned with cooled seats.

I have not owned a Denali model, personally I kind of prefer the Chevrolet front end look so I went with the High Country, the differences are mostly cosmetic other then the magnetic ride in the Denali. The Denali looks sweet but If you are looking for ultimate bang for your buck you'd probably be best to spec yourself a well optioned SLT or SLT all terrain. Hope that answered most of your questions, obviously keep in mind this is all my opinion from my own experiences and I'm sure there will be plenty on this forum who can offer up some wisdom as well, all the best in your future decision!

Morning True North and thank you so much for that excellent and detailed reply:. Much appreciated.!!  A crew cab definitely will be my choice when the time comes.  I will probably not be doing any towing  at all, as I mentioned we no longer have a cottage, so no need to haul anything other than the usual home improvement purchase, gardening supplies.  It's funny how I really haven't heard of many incidents in Canada with this dreaded " Chevy Shske " or any other mechanical problems.  Mind you it's been awhile since I've been in the truck market but coming on these forums and reading about the problems many owners have had with the transmission torque converter issues, and hard shifting is somewhat discouraging .  The High Country us a really nice looking rig, Cadillac 4x4... I've always been partial to the gmc front grille, but do love the front grille of the Chevy special editions such as the Midnight Edition and the LTZ, same floor grille as rest of the truck.  I just noticed your " fuelly numbers" , and that's awesome !  21 mpg ?  Thanks again for replying sir,. Happy Holidays to you...

Joe, east of Toronto here, got myself my first truck in April. Went with a 1500 Sierra Elevation Crew Cab, short box.... for same reasons as I have young kids. I went with the 5.3. I don’t do much towing, but I fill the bed a lot. 5.3 is suitable power for my needs. I’m quite impressed with its power and mileage. Elevation is all blacked out too, it’s got all the bells and whistles other than leather. My last vehicle was leather and never treated the seats and they cracked. Anyways. Hope that helps you decide e21f2a480e9b745180bcd89301a94aa6.jpg

Maplebud,.

Great lookin rig !  I've always loved the look of the Elevation model, simple and clean. Parking lot next door to my work has one identical to yours, however he's got the " Real Tree " camouflage graphics on the rear panels just at end of the box.  He's got stock rims but it looks levelled or slightly lifted, it looks awesome.  Just wondering when is the best time of year to buy ?  Does GM do the employee pricing thing or maybe next year when the new 2019 models become orderable ?  I'm sure they're going to want to clear out as many 2018 models as they can.  Still a lot of 17' models left here....

Hey Joe. In Canada GM does truck month every March. I got instant 10500 off the sticker price.

Thanks, dude.  I always thought truck month was more towards the summer ?  May & June ?  and then they usually extend it ...sort of like  what Ford does when they do with their " employee pricing ".   Another question :. You mentioned getting $10,500 right off the bat with msrp, I thought that was only off the most expensive truck, the Sierra Denali"?   This is starting to get confusing ....Whatever happen to the good ole days of haggling back and forth ?  Lol

I’ve bought a few cars off these guys in Toronto. So it was 10500 off double cab, but they offered it to me on the crew cab. Their reasoning was they were overstocked, I think it’s B/S but I wasn’t going to complain. But it was in the fine print of their ads about the 10500 off on double cab. So with the discount I was still able to haggle a bit, after we settled on a deal I haggled my trade in and was willing to walk away from the deal unless they gave me fair value for my trade in. All said and done I was in there for 4 hours that day. Definitely not fun

Hey Joe, I'm new here as well. I have a 2014 all terrain withe the GFX package. All black.  Red stitching on the leather which has a carbon fibre look to it. I absolutely love my truck. Fuel mileage has been great and sometimes unbelievable. I won't post the numbers but they do approach the word " fantastic". Drives like a dream and is Rock solid with no rattles after 90,000 kms.

Thanks to everyone for the replies, very much appreciated.   I definitely am leaning toward the " all terrain " or " elevation " look.  I love the simple one color look, and not too much flashy Chrome .  Still think that the Denali is an awesome looking truck, just a lot of coin compared to other models. Hoping everything goes to plan, and when best factory incentives kick in, I can make a move...

 Happy New Year everyone ...
