‘15 Silverado 5.3 with 54k. Just left the dealership and they said lifters at the beginning stages of failing so warranty won’t cover until complete failure. Warranty expires in 3 months.  Tell me if that sounds like backing their product? Chevy guy for 25 years. Not any more. ???

They don't 'sort of fail' and they don't give warnings. Like a light bulb. It does or it doesn't.

Don't know for sure if this is on topic but I was driving on the highway. Engine light came on, traction control light came on. Got off the highway a soon as I could and the truck died. Would barely start and sounded like there were rocks tumbling around inside the engine. Diagnosed as internal engine damage and unrepairable. Replacement cost, $11,000.

This is a 2015 Silverado with 67,000 miles. Oil changed religiously.

Checked oil at failure. Up to the top and fairly clean.

GM's offer is a 70/30 split on the repairs. Me with the 70. They say it is outside warranty. I have been a GM guy my whole life. This may put an end to that.

Bought a used 2015 Silverado 5.3 with 90,000 miles on the odometer from the Chevrolet dealership. The very next day I started hearing a lifter knocking. Took the truck back to them the service department called me and said I had more than one lifter bad. Since it had only been 24 hours I wanted them to take the truck back and I would get another one they wouldn't do that and insisted that I let the service department look at it, so I did. The dealership sales department is picking up the cost of replacing all of the lifters and the camshaft. Guess I'm lucky but I'm still concerned about reliability after all the lifters and cam has been replaced. Should I be looking at getting rid of the truck?

Welcome to the site.

How long to you plan on driving/keeping it? They are picking up a pretty spendy fix on their dime, so as luck would have it, happened now instead of a month from now.

Is this like asking if you should amputate an arm that you once broke so you don't break it again?

It's a 60K warranty, right? At what point past the warranty do you think they should be off the hook for something you agreed to when you bought it? Get happy they are helping at all.

The only way I’d buy a new vehicle especially GM is with an extended warranty. I’ve owned more GMs than most people. My all time favorite. Chicago Bill. If’s that’s the best they’ll do. Find a someone to eliminate the whole mess and delete.

JimCost2014 I plan on keeping it for at least 4 or 5 years and realistically I only put about 5,000 mi a year on a truck. I just want to know if anybody has replaced everything and then had it fail on them again. I guess anything's possible. You could say I'm lucky I noticed it a day after I bought the truck. The service department showed me the bill for the cam, all of the lifters, head gaskets, valve guides, and everything else related it was a little over $3,700 but the sales department paid it and I get a 2-year unlimited mileage warranty with the repairs so all in all at least the service department took care of me.
