sub thump box

Recommended Posts

Well...got the box today and everything looks ok. However, i was for some reason expecting to see the box made of mdf but was built out of partical board. Seems a little weak, brittle for the application but whatever. I was told that the box would hold a JL audio 10w3v2d4 with a mounting depth of 5.75" but the box is only 4.9" deep. The box did come with 2 rings that are about 1" thick, I am guessing that these are used to space out deeper subs but then the sub will sit on the floor.

I dont know...I sent them an email to see what the say but, it doesnt seem right to me

 Hey great bed linning, have the same on mine as well. I just wanted to let you all know that I have 1-12 inch under my rear seat. It's a boston accoustic pro series. I did not think there was enough room but it works very well. I run 400 watts RMS from a class d kicker amp. Has not failed me yet. They did have to stuff the box though but the bass I get easily takes over those that have two tens. I have a friend who has a installation shop and did not belive him but it does all work and tumps very loud. Just letting you guys know.

I've been looking at the enclosure on eBay, but I didn't think that would be good for me. I have an Avalanche and I decided to mount everything under the seats. Everything meaning, strobe power supplies, Amp, Air-hor power supply, Cd-changer, and navigation.

I went with this setup instead.

update

well he responded and said that jl makes a sub under 4 7/8" depth. So I bought the ones that he said to and they have a mounting depth of 5" still to deep. So I went out and bought some new legs to raise it off of the floor but the sub still hit. So another email went out and he suggested thiner rings so he sent 1/8" and 1/4" rings. those worked. but...........once I wired everything up and put it into place and cranked it up the 2 10's sounded worse than the 2 8's I had. So...I flipped the box over thinking the sub was distorting because it was hitting the carpet but it sounded the same. I then noticed I could feel some air moving around then I noticed that some of the seams in the box were not sealed. So another email went out he said to just re seal the seams but that is hard to do because they are unaccesable from the inside so he said to either cut the carpet or silicone over the carpet

we will see tomorrow after it dries

So far I would say done wast your money. It has been way to much of a hassle and wish I hadnt done it

Man sorry to hear about all your issues. Subthumb can kiss my butt. You'd think that they produce their own boxes huh? Nope. Imagine my surprise when I found out my installer was one of his suppliers!!

I had similar problems as you. I wanted a single 10" box for under the rear CC seats. Steve says he has one and it looks like the Ext Cab version. I asked for a picture, he sends the Ext Cab version. I expressed my concerns about the dimension differences between an Ext Cab rear deck seat and the CC. He assures me this one will work perfectly. Man must have been drunk or never seen the back of a CC!! No dice.

My installer extensively modded the box (resealed as well) to fit behind the rear seat. It fits, but there isn't enough throw space for the sub so on heavy hits it will contact the rear seat and distort. Steve was no help in any of this.

I'm working on a custom rear console / enclosure concept now.

At first i built a sub box to fit one 10 under my back seat, painted it with herculiner and it looked real nice but stuck out more than i like plus i was wanting a downfire box, which isn't what i made. So after much pain i spent 170 on a q-logic sub box color matched to my interior and i love it. I thought since it only had about .66 cf that it wouldn't sound good with my pioneer 10 that needed .9 cf but it sounds great, more natural and i can turn it up a whole lot more without it vibrating my head, i guess it has alot less drone? It seems to use the whole truck to hit or something. All i know is i like it. Plus the box came with the internal speaker wire, and sound foam, everything about it was very well built and professional. I plan to buy another box for the other side plus the amp rack for the middle once i get the money. I highly recommend it if u want to shell out the money. You have to search around for a cheap place to buy one though, definitely not crutchfield though, they want like 250 or something.

I've tried 2 different sub boxes in my CC, and I made both myself.

The 1st was a MMATS 10, in about 0.55 cu ft. It sounded good, but didn't go low.

My 2nd and current set-up consists of a Kicker S8L7 in 1.1 cu ft ported behind the rear seat. I have to inset the woofer into the face of the box, and also have to use a Kicker grill to keep it from slapping against the rear seat. I do notice that the seat does muffle the sound a bit, but it still goes loud and low.

I've seen several set-ups on the SoundDomain forum, but haven't been able to find anything that would I would feel comfortable switching to.

There's just not enough room in the CC's to have a really kick-azz set-up.
