Diablo Predator 2 or InTune i3

Recommended Posts

The intune has the ability to load custom tunes the predator 2 is locked down to just canned tunes so you’ve got to determine what you want.

If you don’t need the custom capability then you have the predator 2, hypertech max energy, and flashpaq 5 (also the TruXP xtune which is a rebranded flashpaq at autoanything). These all do about the same. All shut off afm, adjust for wheel size and a few other changes. They also come with canned tunes, canned tunes provide a slight change in performance, most say no mpg improvements.

If you want the custom capability the intune is your most cost effective option. You can either buy the intune and run canned tunes (likely the same canned tunes as the predator) until you get bored then you can contact diablew and he can provide a custom email tune for some $.

Likely a better resale on the intune since many guys are looking for that custom option.

I’m shopping for tuners right now and am looking at all those non custom options above. I’m favoring the hypertech because it’s the only one that allows you to set a minimum cut in speed for afm. All other simply turn it off, the hypertech allows you to set a minimum speed you need to be moving before afm Kick’s in so you’re not bouncing in and out of afm in traffic

why does it say the predator makes a good bit more hp and torque than the intune, at least for a 2017 5.3L, can anyone explain that.

Why wouldn't they just put the best canned tune available on both?

I'm getting the hypertech, it seems to have the most options for transmission tunning, which is important to me. I hope it works well.

What are the posted hp and torque numbers? I’ve learned to take all those with a grain of salt especially the one size fits all canned tunes.

I have the intune with the 91 octane canned tune on my 6.2 and I can honestly say that I felt zero difference. It did straighten out my tire size and get the onboard MPG calculator to work again though. I wasn’t expecting much and I got what I expected.

I have an airaid intake. Maybe a custom tune will make a difference, but I don’t really care that much. I have a Vette for going fast.

So if I have the 2016 5.3- 6spd Z71 on 35s and a 6in lift and don't care to get a custom tune due to maybe only getting a CAI and catback exhaust and simply focus on changing my tire size to calibrate my speedo and help with  remove the AFM and get better shifting and little low end throttle response should I just get the Diablo Sport predator 2? I just don't see a point to get the i3 or Trinity.. I just wanna make sure. Because if I do get a custom tune in the future I feel like it will just end up being an a tune from black bear or a Dyno tune. $301 seems like the best price point and also the predator is the most cut and dry simple option. I see many mixed reviews on i2/i3 with constantly updating and not recognizing and freezing and not saving stuff etc etc etc. Seems like the predator is the most simple setup for what's needed on my end. I will prob just run the 87 tune with minimal parameter adjustments.. if there is anything I'm missing please let me know. I'm trying to order tonight. Again. This is between the predator 2 and the i3.. not planning on spending another $150 for a Lew tune. Thanks

I have the Trinity on my Sierra and especially because I like the heads up display and the data logging capability along with the layout there are 5 reprogrammed tunes, and uploaded ITF* file type by SD card,

Tire size and axle ratio settings, the Drag Strip Accelerometer and yaw rate logging abilities.

Its a couple hundred more than the Predator but, in my opinion well worth the expense!

How hard is it to pull out if you have to go to the dealer for warranty engine / transmission issue?

Very easy.  Couple minutes tops - could do in the parking lot at the dealer before walking in.

HP tuners is just like the others mentioned here in that it flashes a tune into the trucks computer then you remove the box. So it is exactly like the others in that regard.

I did a intune with a Lew custom tune. To be honest, he gives some slight improvements on power down low over the canned tune but it just isn’t worth the extra money. At least for the 87 octane tune I did. I raced a buddy in his stock avalanche yesterday and he stayed on my bumper the entire time. I am VERY disappointed.

If I could go back and spend the money differently I would do the Hp tuners. I am a computer programmer and a geek in general and don’t mind digging in and reading about all the changes HP allows you to do. It could easily be overwhelming for some. I have a couple friends who I went through the tuning process with using Hp tuners on ones ctsv and the others 2010 Camaro ss twin turbo. So I have a little exposure to it already.

If you you get overwhelmed with having to do that research and learn the computer program used to make changes, better to stick with the canned options.
