Buyback- minor reason listed

Thanks for all the feedback guys. This truck is a beauty and $8K below value but the buyback, lack of 4WD and all the opinions here have me looking elsewhere.

Thanks and Happy thanksgiving.

Good choice.  Buying a lemon is not good if you want to save money but can be a good project or parts purchase.  If there was a viable way to repair this truck it would not have been branded.

I’m working with a Chevy dealer in central Maryland on a purchase of a 2016 Silverado 1500, 5.3L, RWD. The dealer disclosed that it was a buyback. The salesman showed me the documentation and the listed reason for the buyback was “outside temperature gauge not accurate”. I’m worried that the listed reason may be bogus...that seems to be a minor nit and not worthy of a buyback. I plan to request the full service records and copies of the buyback paperwork. The Carfax is linked here

The dealer is reputable and we’ve purchased from them before. Any takes on what kind of situation I’m looking at here?  Thanks for your opinions and advice.

The outside temperature display sticking is a common problem thru 3 generations of GM trucks now.  It is programmed to always instantly show a lower temp but not to show a raised temp unless a number of parameters are met, as the engineers don't want the display to show a raised temp just because of underhood engine heat.

Press the recirc and A/C buttons at the same time, and the temp display will instantly update, and as a result, your auto HVAC system will work much better.

How does one contact previous owners? This would be a wonderful resource if it were possible, assuming previous owners were OK with it. I think you would stand a much better chance of getting honest info.

When I bought my CPO Sierra I went through the truck top to bottom. In doing that, I of course ended up in the glove box checking the codes (from which I learned here, great forum). In the glovebox was the original XM radio paperwork. It had the previous owner's phone number on it, so I went out on a limb and gave him a call. I left a voicemail and he called me back about 30 minutes later to let me know that the truck was great. He had leased it and decided to turn it in for a 2500. I got lucky that he was a nice guy and not an @ss. I can see where that could be an issue for some people. Me? I would not care one bit if another guy wanted to call me and talk about a previous vehicle of mine.

I agree.  I have made and received such calls. No issue.

Just my $.02 here guys but I believe each situation is different.  For example, the buyback you were looking at stated it was for an outside air temp sensor.  I'm with everyone else here on that one and raising the biggest BS flag one could find!  To get a stealership (GM) to actually buy back a vehicle is an act of freaking congress.  So a simple air sensor..um, no! With that said, I'm a proud owner of a buyback myself.  My 2014 LT Z71 was a buyback for the ever famous drive shaft rumble.  It was serviced and fixed by GM, bought back by GM, and resold to me by GM.  Not to mention, they threw in an extended power-train warranty to 105k miles (bout it with 50k), 105k total emissions warranty, and extended the bumper to bumper to 75k.  I saved 10k on the exact same truck with like mileage (within 5k) from anywhere else that I could find.  I'm now going on two years of ownership and not one, count it, not one problem.  That was a risk I was willing to take but with the added GM warranty, I wasn't concerned.  So again, it really depends on the vehicle and the stealership.
