Engine mount leak

Cough1tu9

Question

I need help figuring this one out, I just bought this Yukon XL (100k) and drove it home (about two hours of driving) and I had a fluid puddle on my driveway the next day. So I checked it out and the only spot where I could find any “leakage” was from the drivers side motor mount. There were no other apparent fluid leaks or spills from anywhere else. I took it in to have it looked and and the liquid had dried and only left minor stains. He thought I was crazy at this point. I asked the tech if he could check the parts listing to see if it was fluid filled. He came back with a engine mount checklist which states to check for fluid leaks from the mount if equipped with GLYCOL(i.e. coolant) but also said he doesn’t see any signs of a leak even after I showed him pictures and he pulled up the inspection checklist. I need proof that the mount needs replaced because the fluid has leaked out. GLYCOL dries to show very little sign of leakage. How much fluid could he expect the mount to hold to keep leaking? How can I know for sure that this mount is the fluid filled kind or not? I took pictures of all of this. E2A03872-3823-4126-BE53-370B8E6FCBA3.thumb.jpeg.e2d280db6c83086bdfce156ee69c70fe.jpeg8BA5F5A7-915A-4956-B46B-9D96A882C539.thumb.jpeg.a524b6505cb0208bb0af2bc7eaa97c8c.jpegB1CACDFB-8639-4232-9FA6-5D477C9FAEF7.thumb.jpeg.52d32f53b3acac2a59d46bbaa37bfdc4.jpeg

Interesting - had no idea GM was doing this. That's always been a Euro or Asian car thing.

Of course, they cannot make one that lasts past 100k ... par for the course.

I would replace the mount - done deal.

Yeah they started using hydraulic mounts to isolate the vibrations caused by AFM. Apparently the vibrations are severe enough to wear them out by 100k miles. Turn AFM off and they'd last much, much longer.

How do I prove that there is fluid in there that leaked out? The dealer is obviously not wanting to take care of it and doesn’t believe that they are fluid filled. I need some sort of proof in writing.

Ask the service manager to talk to parts manager if they are using hydraulic mounts. If you bought the truck there, talk to owner of dealership, and include salesman in discussion. Or, if the mount is still wet, ask them to repair the coolant leak. The mechanic in the shop should know if it has hydraulic mounts. Don't assume that they will be inept, these mounts have been in use for over 10 years now, someone at the dealer has heard of them. Quick search in Google will show that.

I have a 2015 GMC 1500. had the same problem for a long time. I bought the truck used at a dealership. it had a slight ruff engine idle that I thought, I could live with till I said, (got to get this fixed). did my research and was the engine mounts. I'm old school and couldn't figure out how the mounts had anything to do with idle. so I contacted GM headquarters and with going round and round, they finally gave me a case# that I took to a nearby dealer. little did I know the truck was still on the GM warranty. (2days left) on the warranty when I showed up. It took them a while to fix and replace the mounts. but that's what fixed it. didn't cost me any money. if any one is having this same issue, be sure and look up and see if your truck is still covered on the GM warranty.

Active Fuel Management - AKA, 4-cylinder mode.

Glad they covered your mount. Lucked out with just 2 days left!?
