Running board lights

Recommended Posts

I just had a look at the install instructions for a few of their kits and looks like the simplest way for you to have to lights do what you want is to connect them to the dome lights. This is under the dash behind the black plastic box under there. At the top there is a blue connector with a solid grey wire. Thats your dome light wire. You'll have to splice into it. Its up to you which way you want to do that or if you have the tools you could unpin the socket and then repin it with a new terminal with your positive wire to the light crimped to it as well.

Ill post pictures of what Im talking about. The grey wire with the red splice is the one you'll want.

Would be really cool if someone did a kit for the TriFold steps. I would prefer some type of plug in kit where no splicing etc. would be required,  kind of like the old trailer wiring kits?  Figured it would plug into the wiring connection on the board? Probably asking for too much LOL

I got some led strips on Amazon and our quick disconnects on them In case the steps had to come off, and I covered them in chip guard to help keep them on and clean

Nice setup! I didn't even think of putting quick disconnects on mine when I installed them, I just ran the wire inside and wired into the dome lights. I may have to add some just in case, I need to change them out anyways, a couple of the pods have started to discolor and I don't like it.

A big thanks to Texas_Native for pointing out where the dome light feed was. I had two grey wires side by side. The left was constant hot, while the one on the right was for the dome light. The lights match my LEDs on the front of the truck, so now have to replace the 921's in the rear.... Mods end when?

Just bought a 2017 gmc and one of my running board lights are out. The one on the drivers side front. I have gotten down there but am nervous to just take it apart. Any help would be appreciated.

2017 comes with them? That may be an aftermarket install.Just get that rectangle light off and see if you can open it.

Find a similar one from Amazon and match the red and black wires, should be fine.

Waiting on my opt7 running board lights to come in.. I found the dome light wire on the bcm. That will allow them to come on when the doors open. My question is when the doors are closed and I press the dome light button in the cab will the running board lights come on also?
