I think its part of the xm weather. Check the xm radio weather alert setting to turn it off.

Nope not XM...the message is part of the "vehicle reminder messages" - check the owner's manual.  Don't how to turn it off.  Here's from the book:

ICE POSSIBLE DRIVE WITH CARE

This message displays when ice conditions are possible

I live in Wisconsin and keep my truck in a garage that stays above freezing.  So every day of the winter, on the way to work, as the temp sensor adjusts to the actual outdoor temperature, the system sends a useless and annoying ice alert that I need to dismiss.  Every day.

Yeah, it is comical how the truck has to tell me to watch for ice after i just got done shoveling the snow off the driveway. It doesn't bother me that much. I just push the dismiss button and get on with it.

I am really surprised that this reminder would bother anyone.  Many alerts  remind us of the obvious but once in awhile prove useful.

When you live in Wisconsin, ice is possible 150 days of the year. I too got the message this morning.

It gets old, but like I said above, its about 0.01 on the scale of nuisances.

I did try to disable it but I could not find out where.

It was funny today watching the alerts fight for my attention as I was running a few short errands:  (Ice Alert, Phone Connected, Low Fuel, then Seat Belt, then door ajar (key in the ignition)).

Then there's another 'lawyer control' feature that I have to take my eyes off the road to push a button to acknowledge the 'temporarily blocked & disabled' screen (shows up every so may many days) that tells me that it is unsafe to take my eyes off the road.  I'm surprised some lawyer doesn't start a class action suit, because of all of the nuisance alerts that divert our attention off the road.

The ice alert of course, will become ignored by daily conditioning. So it is particularly ineffective, as compared to say the low fuel alert, which is 100% accurate and legit and only when there is really a condition requiring the drivers attention.

When will we get the fog alert or deer alert?

No settings to change AFAIK.

There is, as it turns out:

Auto Rear Defog
This feature will automatically turn
on the rear defogger when it is cold
outside.
Select Off or On.

Good catch.

I checked pdf copies of  2014 and 2015 manual (still ) don't see the entry.

I've did find the same as you've posted in copies of in the 2016 manual and verified it's in my truck.

Maybe someone with a 2015 truck can try the personalization menus and see if it's there.

(in the 2016 it's in the 'Vehicle' > 'Climate and Air Quality' section,)

Could be a new feature starting in 2016.

The way it's worded, it sounds like the 'auto on' of the rear defog is whenever it's cold, not just when remote started.

  • 1 month later...

My heated seats dont get as warm with remote start, sometimes i question if they even are on. Each remote start session is 10 mins. You will have to re-start every 10 mins if needed.

One thing i figured out is, whatever settings you leave your heat selection on when turning the truck off is what you get with remote start. So before i shut it off i do windshield mode, heat to high and fan to high. After 10 mins the inside is burning hot :)

Its based on the outside ambient temperature recorded by the vehicle.  I think at about 35 or below is when it starts to display that message.  GMT-800 was when this started I believe, maybe before that.  It used to display ICE in the temp display in the rearview mirror.
