Sounds when you open the door

Recommended Posts

It's your fuel pump priming. It's mounted on the inside of the frame right under the driver's door. Chevy set it up so it primes when you open the door so there is no chance for fuel starvation on startup and or you don't have to wait for it to prime when you turn the key. Definitely an odd setup.

What are the electrical noises when you open your door? Sounds like actuator arms, today when I opened my back toor to but the kids in I heard a sound forming from the front, sounding like a buzzer, like a game show buzzer.

My 15 does it every 3 or 4 months it is strange. Every thing still working fine. I guess I'm not going to worry about it. But I know what you are talking about.

What fuel pump? There’s one in the tank that’s internally mounted (which on drivers side under the bed) the and the high pressure pump is under the hood mounted to the backside of the VLOM.

I think you may be hearing HVAC actuators moving when you open the door. They change the door positions randomly sometimes.

What DeepBlue said, its the pump bringing fuel to reduce crank time when you turn the key. Only kicks in if the truck has been sitting for several hours. Mine does it every morning when I open my door to leave for work.

Lay under your truck and look at the inside of the frame under the drivers door. You can't miss it. And I've been under my truck when it primed. It's quite obvious.

Interesting! This happens with any door opening? My wife has commented on a buzzing noise when she opens the front passenger side door. Maybe it is a coincidence as I am probably getting in the driver's side at the same time.

Wrong! That is the electronic brake control module mounted on the side of the brake pressure modulator valve. This is for your ABS and stability. Not a fuel pump. No reason it should be coming on when the door is opened.

I just did a quick internet search to get that pic. I apologize if it's not the correct piece I was talking about. I just know my truck does it daily and when I was laying under it putting my new suspension on and had my buddy open the door to check something, that was where the noise came from.

We don't know what year OPs truck is but the fuel pump does not automatically prime when the door opens til you have either a '16 or '17, I forget which. I can confirm this because when my '15 was in for service I had a '17 loaner and that was the first thing I noticed was the fuel pump priming when the door opens.

My guess is the OP has either a '14 or '15 and the buzzing sound is coming from somewhere under the hood near all the electrical box / pcm area. Mine does this too randomly after shutoff. It buzzes for a few seconds.

My 14' does not does not have any noise's when I open the door and definitely no fuel pump priming going on. The only thing mine does is either nothing or the "mylink" screen comes on and that is just with the drivers door, nothing on the rest.
