Frame rusting

TSB doesn't mean squat if you are out of warranty which most 2014's are by now. That rust is not the end of the world, my ford work truck looks just as bad. It is surface rust and as mentioned it would be a very long time before it would be a problem.

It depends what the TSB is for and what the requirements are. Some TSB's are free. Some cover the parts, or labour. Some are just recommendations.

It was out of warranty, thats why I called so many dealers before I found one that would do it. I would definitely start calling dealers to see if you can get it repaired on their dime. Got mine back today and frame looks great now. Even though its just surface rust, its looks like crap and these trucks arent cheap and shouldnt be flawed from the factory. That said, if they wont fix it, it would be easy to do yourself just a messy job.

What was done to make the "frame look great now"?

I don't get why GM insists on using that wax coating on the full-size trucks, as they don't on the Colorado/Canyon series.

I had my truck rustproofed & undercoated at a local Ziebart to avoid the issues shown in the pics by the original post of this thread.

Under normal circumstances I would be in the no harm camp. He did pay for a service that appears to not have been performed. He needs to get what he paid for.

I may have put my foot in my mouth... The dealer did a half ass job at best re-coating my frame. I was told the body and cab were raised off frame during the undercoating. Well I did a body lift over the weekend and not only is the top of the frame covered in surface rust, basically anywhere that wasn't in direct eyesight from the side of the truck wasn't re-coated. Even the spots where the rack arms lifted the truck didn't get undercoated. I will be sanding down the areas need and undercoating myself. Was hoping for a little better job from the dealer, but was honestly lucky they did anything at all as it is out of warranty.

Yes, for the price they did a great job! I would be surprised if they lifted the body from the frame to do the undercoating and don't know why they would tell you that they did!

Based on this statement I would question EVERYTHING else this guy says. I say BS!

During my 4 years of ownership with my 2013 Sierra, I took the time once a year to fully inspect and wash the underside. If I noticed that the frame wax had been compromised, I scraped the area with a putty knife, sanded any surface rust, then retreated the frame with the original X-121B. When I traded it, the undercarriage looked practically brand new, and I received full value for the truck. I will continue to do this with my 2017 Sierra.

  • 1 year later...

Mine is a 2019 Silverado crew cab RST had 14 miles on it when I picked it up. Found this on it a week after I bought it.have way more pictures but says file is to big. Looks like it was sitting in salt water. So much for brand new I have been trying to get this taken care of for 3 weeks now every time I call GM for customer support they say they will have someone contact me and they never do. They want to fix it! I was like your crazy. It’s a brand new truck why should I have to fix it already! GM is garbage and there customer service is garbage. I’ll neve by another American car again. This was my first and last purchase. RST add the Y kinda funny. Think I’m going to get my license plate changed. 2760B210-8611-4B6B-8C99-26AA3A2B627D.thumb.jpeg.a6072027a2bd07c484a837d816e34a98.jpeg
