Long tubes headers

Recommended Posts

Kit came with new gaskets.. what is rtv?

Some headers one with a tube of goo to make your own gasket. Doesn't deal as well. Are they GM gaskets?

Shop put on whatever gaskets came with my AR LT headers. I forgot to tell them to just re-use the stock ones. I hope I don't regret it. From what I hear though the AR Headers gaskets are not as bad as some other brands.

Lift would of been nice but isn't necessary. I did mine by myself in my garage. I put the front on jack stands and took off the front wheels and liners. Some things that make it easier is a 1/2 cordless or air impact with swivels and some long extensions for getting the stock y off the stock manifolds. I used a 1/4" impact to remove the stock manifold bolts. I know some people might give me crap about using a impact on the heads but whatever haha. The only header bolt that was a pain is the drivers side against the firewall.

My Kooks headers came with the stage 8 locking header bolts and cometic gaskets and haven't had any issues with them.

Pretty easy all in all would be nice to have a extra set of hands but not bad by yourself.

Good luck with install and any other questions feel free to ask!

I'd get OEM just to be sure. That way you know you're covered. That's what I did. Also don't tighten the headers all the way down till you get the y-pipe in place. Makes for a tough time getting it on right if the headers are already tightened down all the way. And honestly, I'd go to the parts store or ebay for new clamps. Most of the time the clamps you get with y-pipe are terrible and don't seal up well. Other than that, you're gonna love em on the 6.2! I know I love mine lol.

I would say OEM gaskets. I'm pretty sure kooks and ARH gaskets would do the job but I'm sure the OEM ones will. Was I installing a catch can a couple day ago and noticed one of my header bolts backed out about a 1/4 Inch. I retightened it. Wonder if the shop didn't properly torque or it backed out itself. I think it was the former.

My Kooks came with Cometic gaskets very similar to factory ones if not better. Also look into getting some Stage 8 fasteners that way you never have to worry about the bolts coming loose on the headers. They make them for the collector bolts as well.

The stock exhaust manifold gaskets are not reusable. Only use GM gaskets on header installs, all of the other brand gaskets suck.

Ya they are I know over a dozen people who ran their original gaskets on their Camaros. No issues whatsoever.
