PreRunner Dual Tire Carrier Build

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...

I like the prerunner look, the front of your truck looks tough as well. However, it looks to me that all the connecting points transfer energy directly to the body through the tailgate mounts. If you get rear ended, the bed is going to get mangled without any energy transferred to the bumper/frame where the truck was designed to absorb impact. I really like the idea of cutting out the bed floor and putting in a tub to set the tires into in the same position they are in now, just a little more inboard. I realize that is a huge commitment.

Your fab job is fantastic.

The more I think about this...

Why don't you fab a pre runner style extension to the bumper to extend out to match the carrier? Not anything huge, just another tube beneath it to help absorb minor impact. Maybe an inch more to the rear, in case you back into something too. Good place for back up/work lights...

I realize that not everyone likes this idea. But if it fits your needs and it makes you happy, pa'lante.

If you're going to be going to the "finca" why not add a couple of military jerrycans in the bed?

Yes, Cutting the floor is too much for me at this point, and you are right, if someone rear ends me, its gonna be ugly

I wouldn't call my Fab fantastic, but thanks!

I like the fact that it only takes my 8 bolts to remove it and go back to stock, which eventually I will do, because I can no longer take my dogs out for a ride (they can't jump to the bed with the tires on the way)

Also im kind of missing the stock tailgate looks of the truck. Then, in a few months I will miss the PreRunner look, and so on (Thats why I made it bolt on, LOL)

I actually do have Fincas haha, I come from a family of Coffee producers, me being the 3rd Generation, but im the Black Sheep who got into Cars, Racing and Trucks and is now working foot time as a Manager at a Polaris Dealer on a big city.
