Powerstroke this Chevy

Recommended Posts

You all ain't going to believe this but here it goes. After work today we were screwing around with our trucks in the field behind the shop. I'll refer to people by their trucks. A 2002 F-250 Powerstroke Diesel 6spd 4" lift and 35" Nitto Terra Grips Detroit Locker in the rear, K/N Filter, Straight Piped, 1996 K2500 5spd 4x4 6.5 TD w 285 Goodyear Wrangler AT/S factory locking diff, 1991 K2500 454 auto Gov lock 285 75 16 BFG ALL Terrian TA KO's and my truck the K2500HD 6.0L 5spd w/ 285 75 16 Wild Countrys.

I know this information because I've done almost all of the work on these trucks or at least helped.

Anyways Paul in his 6.5 says lets see what the Stroker has. They hook in the dirt we tension up the line and start them off. The 6.5 hold for a second then starts going back.

Now Mike is up in his 454 powered mule to try and yank the Stroker they hook tighten up the line and they drop the hammer the 454 is burning the piss out of the tires and seems to hold better than the 6.5 but alas is creeping backwards.

At this time I'm not wanting to hook a stroker I just don't think it's fair to my truck.

Anyways after some name calling I got pissed and I was like oh well the worst that can happen is I'll lose. Plus I've pulled a couple of Hemi's, a hand full of Ford 5.4, a 5.9 Magnum, two 350's, one 6.8 Triton and that's my title to date all of which are 3/4 ton trucks w/4wd. So we hook the lifted bada$$ sounding stroker to the Chevy. Tension up the line my bud drops his hands and I drop the clutch in 4lo figuring to start going back. So the ass end of the Chevy drops and the front it light but guess what I'm not moving backwards, or forwards for that matter. I was like f@#k yeah I'm holding him. Start building a rythm with the truck well at least trying to over the straight piped intercooled turbo diesel screaming behind me. So then we brake light each other and stop. The verdict the stroker didn't pull me an inch. I was smiling from ear to ear. Ron the owner of the stroker comes up and says lets hook again you got me a little off the start and my dirt isn't as good as yours. So we turn them around and hook again but alas the Stroker couldn't budge me from my spot.

So lets see 7.3 diesel 6spd

4" Lift

K/N Filter

35" mud tires

Locker

Straight Pipe

525lbs./Ft. Torque

Although not a lot of mods this stroker should have ripped me and it didn't

My truck

2500HD

4x4

285's

Locking diff

K/N Filter

Flowmaster Muffler

4.10 rear end gear.

So what's up now the 6.0 is a bada$$ power plant that held a bad@$$ lifted diesel. The thing that blew my mind is that both the 6.5 and the 454 have me beat in torque and gear multiplication, not the 454 in gearing with it being an auto but it does have 4.56's in the back. So give it up to the 6.0 That held dead nuts with a built stroker.

Amazing, the stroker should have dragged your truck easily. You must be a better driver than the stroker guy.Hardware to hardware he should have owned you.Not just a stroker but any of the big 3 diesels 2001 or newer.Impressive. :puke:

Good work BDBWTE!

Do I understand correctly that the F*rd was a 2x4 or set IN 2x4?

If so, and you were in 4x4 Low, you would have a huge advantage with the crawl ratio.

Even if your gear multiplication was otherwise higher, you dropped your ratio by 1/2.73.

Thus, assuming the trucks were fairly even in gross wieght, it would come down to traction. If your tires were decent, not only did you have a lower crawl ratio, but you had twice as many tires pulling against that F*rd.

If the F*rd was in 4x4 low, then the 6.0L must have been having a good day.

Either way, with brain and/or braun, you won!!

Congrats!!! Generally a lifted truck will always win over a stock truck, and I'm glad you were able to hold your own and prove this general theory wrong this time...

(The reason lifted trucks generally win over stock ride height, is because when the strap is tight, it puts down pressure on the lifted truck, while removing some weight off the stock truck as it pulls the rear end up)

It's all about traction and GM gets it to the ground better than Ford or Dodge. I own an F250 V10 and I hate to admit it but it's true. Every dyno test I've seen for stock engines show that the late-model GM pickups retain a higher % (usually about 10% more) of rear-wheel torque than Ford or Dodge. Dodge is the worst.

Superduties also suffer from axlewrap/wheelhop under hard throttle and to get the best traction you need good traction bar(s) to keep the back tires on the ground. That PSD guy you pulled would've been much better off spending his $$ on a set of Pro-comp trac bars instead of the Detroit locker. The good things (off-road wise) about F250s/350s are the superior stock chassis/body clearance and Dana front solid axles.

Here's a related strange-but-true story:

My bro-in-law saw a late model Chevy S10 ZR2 pull a new 2002 Silverado 2500HD 4x4 cre-cab with an 8.1L backwards fast for about 30 yards through a grass field before the 2500HD caught traction and was able to start pulling the S10. This was behind the shop where he works and apparantly the guy had just bought the 2500HD and was running his mouth about it. They went outside at lunch and settled it. My bro-in-law said the 2500HD was hopping all over the place until it's tires finally caught, and even when it started pulling the S10 it kicked sideways a few times!

Schnope the Ford was in 4lo and I was in 4lo.

I can't hold a candle to that but I did pull a semi with his trailer hooked up out of the south carolina clay once it was all my little truck would do but it got him out.

That's pretty d**n good man.
