MSD Ignition

Recommended Posts

MSD and similar ignitions provide a hotter spark and/or a longer burning spark. There is nothing to be gained IMO with one of these systems on a new truck.

MSD (Multi Spark Discharge) I agree unless your really running a super modified setup in these trucks and racing it, there isn't a need for one unless you just plain want one and can afford the cost and if that is the case then :puke: Just don't really see the difference you will get on a stock engine. Just like changing out the spark plug wires to a highperformance set. Kind of like killing a knat with a 16lbs sledge hammer. IMO I'm sure others will disagree.

Now on the older vehicles like my 65 Impala SS with it's 396, the MSD 6AL made a world of difference. It started better, smoother idle and crisper throttle response. Not to mention I can control the rev limit now and not worry about blowing the engine. In an old big block with a stock rebuild you don't want to take it much farther than the 5k limit on the tach. :puke:

I think theirs put out 45,000 volts compared to stock 30,000 volts. With multiple spark, they will burn more complete. They can also be used with overgapped plugs to work even better. If you are looking for every bit of power, get it, but otherwise you won't see as much on a stock engine.
