2917 Duramax problems, codes and service problems

If it is the main harness, do you know if this means pulling the cab up? I had someone tell me that...

Quite possible to make the job go smoother/faster yes. If its one of the two on tanks, they have to pull the shields, possibly just lower the tank down.

When I dropped this truck off the first time I had 1500 miles, then the second time almost 2000 miles. They have had for 6 days total now.

If removing the cab is part of the fix, I want a new truck, I don't want a $70k rattle trap with other future issues due to taking the cab off.

That sucks. Frustrating as hell, but unfortunately that's not the way it works. If they can't fix it, then you can pursue applicable lemon laws or perhaps they will buy it back.

I hope they sort it out for you.

Ha good luck trying to get them to do that. Won't happen.

As for a truck that can tow.. many rental companies won't let you tow with rental trucks. Unless you get a UHaul or something. Maybe you'll get lucky.

So since I was to tow my camper this weekend, the service rep said I "might" be able to come get my truck, use it over the weekend and bring it in Monday. He stressed might.... If you tow with the truck in a condition like this, could it do more harm or leave me and the trailer stranded somewhere, or is the worst thing will the CEL stay on?

I have a new 17' Duramax myself and I've now heard of three, make that four counting yours with issues regarding the DEF tank and system. A friend of mine at the dealership where mine was from has seen a harness issue, a connector that never was even added to the harness missing and the newest one is the DEF control module which is mounted UNDER the DEF tank that has went bad. All of these trucks have been under 500 miles and the CEL lights were illuminated. I can't believe how ignorant the engineering dept would be to mount the electronic control module under the DEF tank with only a thin metal protecting bracket underneath of it for protection! If that wasn't bad enough, just imagine all of the water from the rain slung from the right front tire while driving or better yet a water crossing when offroad that the module will be subjected to. Electronics don't mix well with water as we all know. This module should have been placed under the hood with the other electronics higher up in the body. I've attached a file showing the module that I requested from the parts guys after hearing of this. I wonder if anyone will make a relocation kit with extended harnesses? Very bad design here, maybe as bad as having no rear hvac vents in the center console for the crew cab passengers. Guess we will see how this issue evolves and what action will be taken to correct it.

Actually, the new ones are an improvement over the first style. The pump module came in from the top and all sorts of shit sits on top of the tank. You should see the stuff those collect. As bad as a fuel tank.

I got my truck back. Every time I get a different story. We don't know what it is, calling GM, its a harness and may have to take the cab off.

Now it was the prongs on the harness for the DEF heater were bent, replaced that harness.

I guess the service I got was ok for most people who just accept it, but I have always been a car guy, work on my own stuff and I care about it.

I hope its fixed.

84113570 is on the part no line item

Earlier on the invoice it says

poor tension on reductant harness pin 14 connector 2x replaced reductant tank harness 5430940 2.0 and completed regen.

It was one of the tank harnesses. In that PDF that voltedge posted above, its item # 14 in the picture. Looking at that labor op on the writeup (5430940 2.0) the 2.0 is the labor time under warranty, in hours it pays to change that part.
