Limited speed?

Recommended Posts

15 6.2 factory 20's, I get 98mph. I heard the reason for the lower speed rating was due to critical driveshaft speed. Do you guys with the higher limiter have the 3.08 final drive?

I have 3.42 and hit 108. I haven't had a chance to run it again but I'm pretty sure she'll cut off at 112

3.42 and 112. Not too interested in driving that fast now that I have ridge grapplers

I have the same Nittos and I am surprised at how smooth and quiet they are

Looks like GM has raised the limiter a bit. It was 98 for everything up to 2014? What are the speed rating of the tires on the 2016s when they come from the factory that are able to do 112? GM often sets the speed limiter based upon the speed rating of the tires it comes from the factory with.

Must have been a 1500 thing. I know 3 of our 2500s with 4.10s did over 100. I might have hit 100 with the duramax, not sure. It doesn't care if I'm cruising 90 in 100+ degree heat though. Not that I drive over 100 all the time.

Coming from factory duelers and having never had a mud tire I thought they were pretty loud. I've gotten used to them now, but I still think KO2s are quieter

It does sound like the General raised the speed limiter. Most of the GMT900s came from the factory with "S" rated tires (112 mph) but were governed at around 97 mph for some reason.

Not sure it makes sense for the new generation trucks universally known for the "Chevy shake" to be governed at a higher speed. Go figure.

Interesting. '99, '01, and '06 weren't limited that way. Well I'm sure the '01 and '06 weren't but I'd be surprised if grandpa didn't hit a 100 a few times in our travels merging or passing in the '99. We didn't have the '02 1500HD long enough for me to remember anything about it other than GM dealers kept telling us the truck didn't exist and it didn't have the 4.10s so it pulled like poop. First, last, and only 6.0 w/o 4.10s in the butt.

Maybe it's an issue with speedometer readings? Does the limiter directly follow the speedo? Would tire size effect it? I know many German cars which are limited to 155 regularly will pull past to 160-170
