After market (replacement) leather

Recommended Posts

At 27k miles, my driver seat bolster leather cover is wearing to a pint that the dealer is going to replace the cover next week. Even though I regularly clean/condition with Griot's Leather stuff.

I see on EBay leather seat cover replacements made by Katzskin, which I understand to be a reputable brand.

Reading that the leather seats in our trucks are some sort of plastic covered facsimile of real leather*, is the Katzskin real leather and anyone have any experience with that?

*i know. This is how all the mass market manufacturers do it, not just GM.

Hmmm...I read the FAQ from the Katzskin website. One question is, is the Katz product 100% leather. The response, written by a lawyer that used to be a politician, I understand that it's as least as good as whatever the manufacturer provided. Wow. A wonderful non-answer.

How about: The seating/contact surfaces we provide are thicker and generally a better grade of leather than your manufacturer provided. Like the original, the surfaces that do not have contact with vehicle occupants is a synthetic facsimile that is also high quality. ?

Do you recall the installed cost, front and back?

I have the Katzkin in my double cab 16 Silverado. It's beautiful and is easily installed yourself. I installed mine. So total cost was $500! I'm sure to have installed is around $1,200. That's what our dealership ends up paying for install all the time.

Thanks. $500 is awesome.

Would you rate this better quality than the OEM leather seats?

Do they have the decorative panels that the GM seats do?

Pics?

I got mine installed at dealer cost for 1200.

Well worth it. I watched them work for about 3 hours pulling stretching and taking all seats out
