WARNING SCAMMER IN MARKETPLACE

I remember complaining about the minimum post count requirement before being able to sell on the other forum. It makes sense... It may not prevent scams but will certainly slow them down or think twice about trying. Sucks for any new members who come to the forum who legitimately want to sell their stuff. I guess it's like ebay feedback rating. I think twice about buying from someone with 0 feedback versus the opposite.

Thank you everyone for the suggestions. I've implemented a 100-post minimum before a member can start a thread or reply to a thread in this forum going forward.

I see why you don't want someone selling with less than 100 posts but you can't sell to someone that has less than 100 posts?

A buyer could PM the seller.

Mudd, perhaps Zane can make it 100 posts just to access the Classifieds to even see them.

Zane, that's also assuming no one "spams" their way to 100 posts with meaningless drivel?

It's a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. We can't please everyone, but we can do what we can to prevent this from happening again

You do that and you kill the classified section. It becomes non searchable in Google. The only buyers left are current active members that have been here for a long time, a fraction of the audience you can sell to right now. That does not sit well with paying site sponsors you want to keep paying the bills.

Correct. As of now, everyone can see it. If they don't have the minimum, pm is available.

There are a number of ways to sell stuff if you don't have the 100 post count, ebay, craigslist, letgo, etc. This is just another avenue to help fellow members if I am not mistaken. I am not aware of any any site sponsors that use the FS section to conduct business, but maybe I am wrong.

On F150forum every picture in a for sale post had to have the date and the sellers username. This stops people from pulling google images and claiming them as their own.

Pictures were required in ALL for sale posts none of that "I'm trying to figure out how to post" bs. If you can't figure out how to post a picture, you probably shouldn't be doing sales over the internet.

I was amazed on this forum how people were able to post items for sale with no picture and less than 100 posts.

In 16 years this is the first big issue we have had

I'm glad I didn't take the bait on any of those posts. Saw them and was tempted! Finally, being cheap has paid off! What a piece of scum... I hope law enforcement gets involved so there is more than just a slap on the wrist from PayPal.

After some suggestions, I've lowered the minimum post amount to 50. We'll be moving to a newer version of the forum software soon which will allow us to refine how the marketplace works going forward. We want to keep it open as much as possible. As mentioned before, lock it down too much and we're going to shoot ourselves in the foot.

Thank you everyone for your comments and patience.
