Grit guards??? Why?

Recommended Posts

So girt guards are used so that the dirt and grim sink to the bottom of the bucket and do not get picked up on the mitt or sponge. Correct me if Im wrong. People keep saying that you really should use these, they are really important. And you also need one in each bucket. And I do use the two bucket method. My thought though is when you dip you mitt, DON'T LET IT GO TO THE BOTTOM OF THE BUCKET!! So is there any true explanation as to why you really need the grit guard? am I really missing something or are they a gimmick. I know they are like 6 bucks, but just another thing to add to the cleaning supplies.

But...what if you set the mitt in the bucket and start to rinse the car? What if the mitt dirty and you stuck it in the bucket, but didn't rub it on the guard at the bottom to rid the mitt of dirt? I say they are more than worth it, especially on a black vehicle.

I always hang the mitt over the side of the bucket when im not using, I will agree it will probley help when dirt is stuck on the mitt even after dipping the pit in the rinse bucket, but i always just spray it with the hose to get that out. I probley end up breaking down and getting one. but another thing to store away....

In the same friggin bucket you've got to store anyway. Sheez!

Grit guard is there also to agitate the mitt against to remove crap from it. Also grit will fall out while it soaks. 2 buckets, 2 mitts

The grit guard also helps keep the sediment from whipping back up into the upper part of the bucket when your swirling and swooshing the mitt around. So it really serves many purposes, keeps dirt down low, keeps mitt from touching bottom of bucket, and gives you a surface to rub mitt on.

Ok so I will give my simple 2 cent worth.....Grit guard is a MUST HAVE....if you have a show car and/or luxury Very Expensive High end vehicle a 2/3 bucket wash is absolutely needed. For my daily driver I use a single bucket w/grit guard, but rinse out the mitt before every dip.

WTF is a grit guard? Are you talking about washing a vehicle?

Why not just rinse whatever your using to whip, before sticking it back into a clean bucket of soapy water?

Do you do this with food dishes too? Just throw the left over food into the dish water?

Two grit guards per bucket x 2 buckets = you get the idea. 4x the $$$ spent over a single bucket grit guard.

I had good results this past weekend, using foam cannon and power washer.

power washed first, then foam cannon, then rinse off, then foam cannon, then wash with mitt and single bucket, then rinse. my kids love the foam cannon, they've said that it looks like it's covered in snow or it's just like the carwash. lol

maybe we need 3 buckets with 2 grit guards in each. ha

I'm moving to one bucket and multiple mitt/washcloth. Watched a couple YouTube vids on this method and it makes sense to me. I already have all the stuff for the 2 bucket wash(foam cannon, etc), but I'm buying more microfiber mitts/wash cloths and will start doing it that way and see how it goes...
