For all of those with 6.0's

Went to the shop today from a job to get a load of steel figuring one of our many trialer were their. Went around back well the 18+2 flat Pintle trailer is gone. So I figured no biggy we have three goosenecks. Look over and the 30'+4 Fleetworks is gone with weights right around 4300lbs tare. The 20+4 Donahue trialer tare weight 4,600lbs is gone. The only one that sits there is our Corn Pro 25+5 trailer. This trialer is a 10 ton trailer and has tandem duals. The trailer's tare weight is 9000lbs and the king pin weight empty is over a ton. So anyways I hooked the trailer figuring I would just rip the guts out of the truck or not pull it. So I backed it up to the bay and loaded it with 6,300lbs of steel I know this because our P&H crane has a digital readout of the weight it's lifting. So do the math 9K+6K=15K. So anyways off I went and was super suprized when the truck actually handled the load pretty well had the trailer brakes way up so I could stop and on a few hills the truck didn't leave second but the truck took this load 30+ miles to the jobsite. And on the interstate the truck cruised at 55-60mph becuase I was scared to go any faster plus the lots of weight and a OD didn't seem logical. I might add my truck's Gross combined vehicle weight rating is 16,000lbs. My truck weighting 7,000lbs unloaded plus 15000lbs of trialer means my combined weight was 22,000lbs. So next time you knock a 6.0 tell me when the last time you pulled 15,000lbs with your truck and I'll shut up.

BTW you wouldn't believe the Chevy owners that pulled up beside me and gave me that thumbs up. There was like 4 different trucks in 30 miles that were pointing and nodding their heads.. It was a proud day for the HD and small block owners.

I'm not suprised at all.I have never owned a 6.0 truck, but my 96 K2500 5.7 5spd 3.73 pulled over 20,000 lbs more times than I can count.I would just keep the rpms up and go.I would like too stress the truck did it but it did'nt like it.It will work in a pinch but I'm glad I bought my 02 and 03 with the 8.1 and Dmax respectively. No more small-blocks for me.

:D

What about the 8.1/Ally? Last I read it has:

-12,000 lb ball-hitch trailer rating with the 4.10, CC, 8' box and 4X4.

-15,100 lb 5-th wheel trailer rating with the 4.10, CC, 8' box and 4X4.

12,000/2000= 6 tons

15,100/2000= 7.55 tons

Is it just me, or do these numbers on the 3500 seem a little small? My crazy sense of logic tells me that if the 6.0 can do the numbers BDBWTE said, the 3500 should do it and then some without even breaking a sweat. Or am I just being too hopeful ?:D

I've been extremely happy with my 6.0 - towing boat/trailer combo of approx. 6,000lbs - engine never seems to be straining. When I purchased brand new, I couldn't afford the added cost of the 8.1/Allison combo.

I have no doubt that the 8.1 alli combo or the 6spd with 4.10 would pull this weight with ease. Although I don't know for sure if I was a beting man I would bet it wouldn't mind it that much. Reason being I was surprized how much my 6.0 didn't mind it especially on the flat.
