washing your truck

Recommended Posts

Any good wash made expressly for modern paint. I use Meguiars Gold Class. Anything that has their label on it is top shelf stuff. Dedicated car wash sponge or mitt. Wheel brush. Everyone responding will have a different answer. I also highly recommend the "two bucket" method.

Car wash stall using hand spray wand and freeway drive home to dry.

Or by hand with Meguiar's Ultimate Car Wash concentrate (the yellow stuff in the big bottle) from WalMart in a bucket with a big fuzzy mitt, sponge to get the bugs off the front and do the wheels, big brush for the tires, rinse with hose water and real chamois to dry.

Tar remover or clay to get any remaining tough stuff off the truck.

The older I get, the more simple I get on my auto detailing.

There is a whole ton of specialized wash/dry/polish/was stuff available at autoparts stores and Adams and Griot's, etc online.

Seems like that Back-to-black renew stuff, no matter what the brand, only lasts a short time between needed applications.

Leaf blower and finish with a waffle weave microfiber towel works well. All depends on how carried away you want to get. Try the info available at sites like Detailed Image - you'll be reading for weeks!

I go to the carwash and do it manually. Pre soak foam, wash, rinse, then hand dry with an "Absorber XL" cloth. Clay bar and wax 2-3 times a year.

I cant remember what i used on my Can-am side by side but it made the dull faded black plastic look like new. Ill have to check on what it was this weekend and update this.

I've tried the Back-to-Black stuff and never had good luck.

I did all the tricks for over 40 years, spent countless hrs washing and detailing. Now I give a local blue wave carwash 20 bucks a month for unlimited drive thru. I use their free vacuum and air dry on the ride home. Once a year I use a name brand quick wax. My SUV is black so I do that about 3 times a week and it looks good after 2 years. My toy get hand washed once a year, it never sees rain. My wife cars is gold so it get blue wave once a month, you can't tell it's dirty till it's clean, gold is my favorite color for now on.

There's a hand carwash by me I go to. 2 guys spray it down with a power wash, the belt takes it under foam sprayers, two more guys with hand mitts rub it down, it gets sprayed off again, then taken into the parking lot where it's hand dried and spray waxed. Not as good as doing it myself but I honestly don't take nearly the enjoyment of detailing my truck like I did when I was younger. Especially since it's black and usually looks like crap within a couple days at most anyway.

I pressure wash with hot water to get the heavy off, drive through the local touchless car wash, and if I feel like it i'll hand wash the step bars, wheels, and put on some tire shine.

I have a foam cannon from Chemical Guys but i just haven't tried it out yet. Personally I don't like to handwash/labor much cleaning my truck. It's destroyed by Monday cause of my work environment..

For black trim. It's the best.

This does work will on the plastic trim on these new trucks. Especially the bumper and the little trim at the bottom of the fenders. (Yes that was the technical term for the trim).
