I'm pretty sure it needs to be matched to your VIN. I would not buy a cheap one off eBay as I doubt they program it.

That said, do you have an iPhone or Android device? If so, you can use navigation via CarPlay or Android Auto. GM's OE navigation is a nice system but it was outdated before it was ever sold. The phone based systems use Google Maps, Waze or other services that are basically always up to date.

My '17 SLT came with factory Nav. and I have only messed with it one time. As stated before, the map is probably from 2015 or 16. I recently got an email from GMC saying that I could buy the update thumb drive for $249! GPS is free from a lot of sources, trying to charge someone $249 for a one-time upgrade to a map on a $50k truck is insulting. I hate nickel and dime stuff like that and I know that they could send an update over-the-air if they wanted to. All that being said, If you are looking at an 17/18 LTZ, it seems that it too should come with factory NAV as well as the Android Auto/CarPlay software. I plug my Galaxy S8 in via USB and run the app on the truck's infotainment system. Waze and Google Maps work perfectly w/ turn-by-turn and traffic. They have made some good updates to those apps and it will let you run Pandora and other audio players from the truck as well.

I have a 2014 Silverado.

I can Bluetooth my android phone and make hands free calls, xm radio, spotify, etc. My issue is I can only get turn by turn directions on Google maps, through my link, while I am using my phone as input. Turn by turn through my link won't work while using AM/FM or XM

Any fixes for that?

Not interested in paying for  On star Nav

Thanks

I’ve only used iPhone maybe it’s different. I only use my phone and Bluetooth for music and navigation. Down load iHeartRadio, Pandora to your phone and have music and turn by turn through your phone and Bluetooth . Or turn off the Bluetooth on your phone. The turn by turn will come through your phone and music through your truck radio. I’ve never tried anything else. I only use my phone, and Bluetooth. I don’t listen to the radio.

If I read your question right, you want the turn by turn from your phone to play over your stereo while listening to something other than Bluetooth from your phone.

To do this, pull up your Bluetooth on the phone and look for the "I in the circle" icon.  Click it and scroll down.  There should be an option that has to do with playing over the car.

Also, within google maps anyway, there is a set of options available while it is connected to the car.  Swipe up on the phone (while map is displayed) and the options will appear.  Look for something about audio or Bluetooth.  Within that there is "Allow HFP prompts" or something that you have to toggle on.  I believe in apple maps it's similar.  I don't have my phone in front to give you exact directions but you'll find it.

Hey guys if you want to do this upgrade, I suggest talking to the guys at Coastal Flash out of Victoria BC, Canada. I shipped some parts over to them and they had them programmed and back in 3 days. They also have pre-programmed kits as well. The guys are extremely helpful and can send step by step instructions on how to install it.

they also ship to the USA as well.

We rarely (almost never) use the NAV in either of our vehicles.  We use our phones and tablets more than anything.  Plus, the software is OUT OF DATE in both of our vehicles.
