Camper shell...??

Recommended Posts

Couldn't be happier with my ARE Overland cap.  Been truck camping and its been perfect.  Love the looks of it too.  Havent notice any noise or anything from the Yakima racks either.  Def glad I went ahead and jumped for it.

Just got my Leer 100XL topper installed last weekend.  Went with the removable sliding front window, electronic lock, and tracks for a future roof rack.  So glad I read up on here about toppers before I bought, otherwise I probably wouldn't have went with the removable window.  Was on some dusty roads this weekend and I was surprised how much dirt collected between the cab and topper windows.  So nice and easy to just remove the window to clean.  I'm loving it so far!  LED strips going in this weekend for interior light.

I have the removable slider on my leer too. I'm very dissappointed in the slider part. It rattles like crazy when closed (loose fit in tract), and when I slide it open for my dogs if you go around a corner it slides closed easily on its own. Curious if yours does this or if they improved the design at all?

Also do yourself a favor and cut off the rubber strip on the bottom of the rear door. The dirt road grim was getting on that rubber strip and rubbing the paint off the top of my tailgate.

I purchased a Century cap in Dec. 17 (same maker as LEER) and have had nothing but trouble.  The paint job wasn't a perfect match, had some blemishes in a cpl spots with touch up paint and one of those spots has since chipped off.   The 12v power outlet was faulty but luckily replaced with a better unit by the dealer who installed the camper free of charge.   The worst part is my window leaks on the drivers side.  I've been dealing with them for months now trying to get this leak addressed.  Looks like a solid product and I'm sure not everyone has had the same experience but just wanted to share my story.

Most tailgates have plastic cap on the edge so this shouldn't be a problem.  The slider window leaves a lot to be desired but the functionality of being removable helps tremendously.

The leer has a plastic rubber piece about 2 inches wide that hangs down past the plastic cap on the tailgate and touches the paint. As Soon as you drive down a wet dirt road the rubber strip gets packed with grit which started to rub the paint off my tailgate. I just cut it off problem solved.

I have one off bumpers being done for it, this truck is about to get major work done to it. Hoping to make Sema this year.

Iron cross are by far worst in the market. They rust within 6 months of putting them on a vehicle. Up here in Canada, unless you have it striped and painted properly or liner guarded.. you are left with a horrible looking bumper.

Send me a PM and I’m sure I can help you find a much better bumper.

I have had an Iron Cross bumper on my truck for over a year...no issues at all...I love it and get tons of compliments on it.

Where are you located? I’m in Canada; we use salt unfortunately. So upper states may have same problem, but majority of iron cross on the road up here are all rusted out; looks horrible.

I haven't noticed it rattling or sliding on it's own at all.  It seems like a sung enough fit in the track to keep it in place.
