Radiator Bug Screen Ideas

I want to protect my radiator from bugs and rocks. I took off my grille earlier to plasti-dip it and looked at this area and thought to myself, "what kind of bug screen do they have or can I make one?"

 

Make one from screen door mesh?

Any good bug screens?

Strong, stainless, flows well, catches most rocks and bugs. I recommend it to all my friends w/ exposed radiators, intercoolers, that take a beating down low. But you can use it behind the grill if you are having issues.

I used dog proof screening from Joanns Fabric. Very tough stuff. Put it behind grill before trip to Alaska last year.

I would just go to Home Depot or Lowes and pick up some extra window screen. Cheap and easy to replace if you get a rip or tear.

Yes just get some of the nylon window/screen door screen. They usually have it in big roles and just cut as much as you need! I have not done my new truck yet but did my reg cab. I actually put it right on the rad behind all the framework. (Yes you have to take the grill out to get full access!) Then fold it through over the top. You will see that there is a slot there that it will fit through. Then I just drilled a couple of small holes on each side in the composite fan cowl and put some small screws in with fender washers to hold the screen. If you cut the screen in properly it fits perfect.

 

I have done this as one of my must do mods to just about every car or truck I have ever had.
