Hood open warning and theft attempt warning

Recommended Posts

These to things happened to me today. Hood open warning was happening over and over and as soon as I hit the key. Theft warning happened after I left it in my driveway went inside and the horn started blowing keys were in my jacket so I grabbed them and hit lock and it quick for ten minutes then went off again. This time I went out and started the truck and that's when it said theft attempt so I call onstar they said I should take it in for service. Anyone experience this with there truck?

Add to that my remote start doesn't work now either.

Well, I just had work done on mine. Remote entry wouldn't lock or unlock from the fob. Then, TPMS stopped working. Both of those go to a module called RCDLR. Just got it replaced this week and things seem to be back to normal. I don't know if RCDLR has anything to do with theft warning or hood warning errors though.

Also, I've read that certain errors will disable the remote functions so that could be what you are seeing.

Yes factory installed. Turns out it was just the hood latch or sensor picked it up this afternoon and it's back to normal. A friend works there in a different department and told me they forgot to order the part so they took it from some other truck. A little shady but it's back to normal.

Alarm went off in my 2017 GMC Sierra Denali this morning. Hit the lock button to reset, alarm went off and hasn’t went off since. Went out to start truck, says hood is open and the check engine light is on. Check the hood, hood is closed and secure. Go ahead and opened the hood and closed it. Still says hood is open and check engine light still on. Dropping it off at the dealership Wednesday...

Did you ever get yours fixed and back? If so, what was the verdict? Was you check engine light on as well when this occurred? Thanks

Whoever figured out that the computer is looking for 2.1k ohms of resistance in order to enable the remote start, thank you!. I bought a pack of 2.2k ohm resistors on Amazon for just over $5, soldered one in and it all works. Shocker!  Solder in the resistor to connect the black wire and brown/green wire coming into connector prior to the latch switch. I used a few layers of shrink tubing and electrical tape to protect it from the elements and then tie-wrapped it up to keep it from flopping around. Beats replacing the whole latch assembly or waiting for the dealership to fix the problem either under warranty or for a few hundred bucks. Easy fix, good luck.

Recently I had our 2019  Chevrolet Silverado Trail Boss anti theft system started honking its horn insecintly because the damn Hood Latch sensor appears to have been tampered with, when infact it hasn't. My spouse was driving the truck was when it began, and while she was parked, PARKED, it started beeping its horn and also while she was driving. This  is getting annoying because the anti theft system woke me up at 4 am and had done so two times previously in the same night, I'm losing sleep over this HOOD LATCH SENSOR. Can the Hood Latch Sensor just be unplugged or is that opening up a new can of worms, or can the Anti Theft system be deactivated ?

I have this problem on my 2015 3500.  I’ve had this truck for about 18 mos.  It only happens when the outside temperature gets below about 45 degrees and the message goes away after I’ve driven about 5 minutes or so.  The selling dealer replaced the latch before I bought it and I replaced it a second time.  No issues with alarms but when it happens remote start and cruise control is inop.  I’m thinking maybe a bad ground or a wire is pulling out of a connector when it’s cold.  Just haven’t taken the time to hunt it down.  I’m thinking about just putting a resistor in the wiring right at the computer.  Love the truck (duramax) though, just an annoying issue.

Needs a new hood latch.  Replace it and problem solved.  Unplugging it will only continue to still have the hood open message and the remote start won't work.
