Rear windows (not rear slider) quit working...

Recommended Posts

2016 Sierra All-Terrain Crew Cab with 6000 miles on the clock. The rear windows on both sides are not working from either the driver's or passenger's window controls. Driver and passenger side front windows work both from the driver and passenger controls. I've tried with and without the window lockout switch on, that isn't the issue. The dealer didn't have enough time to look at it extensively the other day, but they said it wasn't a fuse. Any of you have this happen and if so, what was the cure?

try the opposite of this, To prevent passengers from opening a rear door (if equipped) from the inside or open- ing a rear window, press the Rear Door Security Lock/Rear Window Lockout button located on the driver’s door. The button indicator will illuminate.

My ten year old truck had issues on the drivers side controls - the controls on the rear doors worked fine. The problem I found was dirty contacts on the switches in the drivers door console. I am not sure if they still have the same design between 07 and 16 but they are not the best design.

Hello LiveToRide,

We can imagine how frustrating this this rear window concern must be, especially so early into your vehicle ownership. Please keep us posted whether or not you return to your dealer to have this looked at. We’re available via private message to provide an extra layer of assistance. Thanks again, for being a valued customer!

Regards,

I recently noticed that the rear door ajar indicator does not display on the DIC/speedometer gauge or give an audible warning. Rear windows are still inoperable. Being new to GM products (had Toyota pickups the last 23 years) are those warnings displayed for the rear doors? The front doors do give those warnings. Not too happy that we are already chasing electrical issues after 6000 miles.

Sitting at the dealership waiting to replace both rear window switches. Very bizarre that both switches went out at the same time. I will provide an update after the fix is complete.

*Update*

Dealer discovered a water leak coming from the XM antenna which had found its way down into the electronics/wiring. Dealer says they've replaced "several" of those antennas and their seals. They actually kept my pickup overnight because there was so much moisture in the door and under the carpet. Anyone else experience this issue? Should I be concerned with mildew or mold issues going forward?

This is a fairly documented issue on this forum, as far as water leaking through the XM Antenna. There is a small "slot"for lack of a better word, in the back of the antenna that is perfect for letting water in. Luckily I read about it before I bought my truck, and shortly after my dad bought his so I caulked them both before their first washes.

Makes me glad I only have 2 doors, good luck!

Glad you got that issue worked out. I wonder if the dealer would perform this repair to a truck that has not yet leaked? Kinda thinking of letting them fix mine before I get a bucket of water inside.

Also...what is the dealer fix? Do they just caulk the antenna?

Thanks guys. The dealer won't fix an issue that might pop up. Just keep an eye on it. I have weather tech floor mats so I might have noticed the moisture earlier if I'd checked under those. However, its the snow and rainy season here so floor mats tend to stay wet anyway. The dealer said there haven't been any reported leaks on the ones they've repaired. Just a bad design on GM's end. Not sure why GM hasn't changed the design yet?

  • 3 years later...

I have an 09 LTZ Avalanche, both rear windows will not operate. I cleaned the contacts, checked all fuses, child lock, replaced the main control and still no resolution.

I hear no noise, only the front windows will roll up and down, all the lights on the control work.  What else can I check? any ideas would be greatly appreciated.
