I have a black silverado and I wash it once a week, I keep it better than show room condition. If it rains, my truck turns almost gray and looks horrible. It's waxed quarterly, is there something I'm doing wrong? Do I need to seal the wax or is it just because it's black?

Wax typically only lasts 2 weeks. Paint sealants are the way to go for paint protection.

That's just the nature of the beast with black paint. 10 mins after you have it detailed up, some dust decides to come over and hang out on the truck. Love/Hate relationship.

Black really only looks good the second you finish cleaning it up. Enjoy that 10 minutes! lol Seriously though if you want it to last, the only thing that can help is a ceramic coating finish. Its not a miracle worker but they are very hydrophobic and repel water and dirt better than anything else. Plus they can last a couple years with light maintenance. I use Adams coatings, but there are others. Good luck

welcome to the BLACK truck group . wash weekly , spray wax weekly , Spring & Fall - good wash job , clay bar , wax ( local body shop - bro in law ) park in a garage and dusk it daily , just like the street rodders do. enjoy it when all clean up - about 10 min.

Yea pretty much summed that up. I've had a black since 2003 and it's very labor intensive to keep it looking brand new. But there's nothing like a clean black truck. New England is probably the worst place to live and own one.... so I'm very busy detailing my truck.

I'm new to the black truck world with my 2011 2500hd. I love the black. But hate the dirt. I have to wash it and washing it at the house is a no go. My home water is well water. Spots like crazy and the Florida sun dries it like crazy. I normally wash it at my work and dry it. And then spray wax it when I get home. Worst part of it all is my passenger side is all swirl marks. Whoever buffed it prior to me buying it did something wrong and I for the life of me can not get it to go away.

Black is tricky.

Any damage done during an improper detail shows up easily.

If you don't have professional detailing equipment, it will be hard (if not impossible) to get rid of those swirl marks.

Either invest in a very good detail from a local reputable detailer or if you have a DA polisher might have to reconsider what steps you are taking to get rid of the swirl marks.
