2017 GMC Sierra 1500: Surge, Hesitation, Chuggle, Misfire, Feeling wit

Recommended Posts

Figured I'd post an update on my trip to my dealer. They didn't even look at my truck, told me I am one of several they have with the same issue and Gm will be issuing a recall in the next few weeks and that it is a programming issue. They also told me they haven't told them of a fix yet, so there is nothing they can do right now.

I leased a RAM for 3 years. For that entire 3 years I had to start it, put it in drive, it would go into limp mode, shut it off, restart it and it would drive perfect. Took it in 3 times and they never could fix it so I just drove it that way. I feel like I should get a discount over people like Opie for being a much easier customer to deal with.

With that being said, my 6.2 behaves almost exactly like your truck does, but it's 100% the transmission. When mine chugs and lugs, hesitates, and clunks around I just have a giggle and give her more petrol. If they take your truck back pay the extra and get a 3/4 ton with the Allison. Chebby treats the 1/2 tons like they are just toys and we expect actual trucks.

From another thread on the issue ...

Lazy tech didn't check for bulletins

My truck is at the dealer for this issue right now. Had to drive with the tech in order to show the issue to him. They were extremely skeptical at first but I walked out of there knowing they know about the problem.

My 2014 drove just fine. Great power at low throttle tip in. How can they **** things up later in the production run???

I just got back from my dealer (about a 80 mile drive). After they did the update, the truck drove WAAAAAAAAYYYYYY better than it did before. I wouldn't say it is 100% cured, but it is at least 98% cured. It may just take a little for the computer to re-calibrate to my driving style. The only time I notice anything now is right as I accelerate from a stop. I hadn't noticed that before.

so I just got off the phone with the service department and at 1711 miles my transmission filter was cracked so they replaced it and a control solenoid as well as updated the shift parameters and transmission programming. I am headed to pic it up so I will let you know if it runs any better.

I have a feeling there will be several updates to the update. Once they get one that actually fixes the problem there will probably be a customer satifaction recall for all 2017 trucks affected. Kinda like what they did with the '14-'15 trucks with the transfercase problems.

So what all is required to do the update?

Is it just plugging in to the OBD port and preforming an update?

Or do they have to drop the transmission pan for something? What all is involved?

Thanks

Why did they need to replace a control selinoid?

Do they need to drop the transmission pan to do this update for the "chuggle/misfire feeling problem"?

If so, are they flushing the transmission or at least refilling with new transmission fluid when they do this update?

What all is involved with doing this update?

Thanks
