2017 GMC Sierra 1500: Surge, Hesitation, Chuggle, Misfire, Feeling wit

Recommended Posts

Same problem with my 2017 Silverado (rough downshift / surging / misfire feeling) 1st trip to the Stealership they greased the drive shaft helped for a few miles? second time they did what the called a triple flush I believe of the torque converter or tranny ,not sure . 3rd trip they changed out the torque converter .It helped for a couple hundred miles.

Started Fl. lemon process / good bit of red tape . Was offered a buy back with a lot of incentives if I bought another GM product .Ended up ordering  direct from GM 2018 sierra just below Denali trim .

Within 100mi or so the same exact problems AGAIN! 3 trips to the local Stealership and they never touched it only drove it and claim "drives as expected" lol .

Started another lemon law process last week and got the ball rolling . I am going to hold out for a buy back this time . I thought this was just an isolated problem NOT! To make things worse with less than 200 mile on the 2018 I asked for a trade to something on their lot and they valued my 48G truck (55msrp) at 34G trade in value / talk about depreciation?

It's amazing how easy it is to reproduce this problem but there's still no fix for it.  I mostly drive in flat areas so I'll rarely notice the fish biting but this past weekend I was driving through the hills/mountains of northern California.  I had issues with slight accelerating on almost every incline where the truck would chuggle/fish bite and just skip heartbeats.  No down shifting or overdrive... just plain old minor acceleration.

So maybe I'm too used to Japanese and German cars, but every time I drive my truck, I'm keenly aware of most shift points, and also notice what I refer to as "cycling vibrations" that lasts ~1 sec, every 3 sec or so......... which might be the torque converter (?) when cruising at around 45 mph, and also when just coasting down to a stop.  I tend to drive super conservatively since I keep my vehicles for 14 years on average and want it to last, but this tranny makes me think there's no way it will last that long......but then again, maybe I have too high of expectations and am just being too picky.

Oh, and that's AFTER a custom tune.  :(

So I bought a 2017 gmc sierra elevation, after I got it home I noticed hesitation or like a surging when accelerating. I went to dealer a few times, had all computers updated, a new torque converter installed, I bought a tuner, got a custom tune, still the same piece of crap. Gm said nothing they could do as long as check engine light wasn't coming on that's the way I had to drive it. I started checking things on my own, it's almost a year now and I think I finally figured it out. It's the garbage fuel peddle, it's made of plastic and mounted on plastic, it moves up and down on plastic runners. If you reach in and give it a shake it feels like it will fall off. Well I moved the pedel all the way to the top and used some zip ties to anchor it solid, now the truck operates like it should, what a difference, no more hesitation. I'll definitely test it more and again bring it to gm to have it looked at. Hope this helps anyone with similar issues.

I'm aware of the pedal flex issue and have shimmed that, but am not aware of the fix that you describe which sounds like you may have done something to the top of the pedal housing to anchor it.  Can you post pics?

So, like many many others I experienced misfire and rough cold idle throwing a CEL.  I bought the 2017 Yukon 3 weeks ago used, and the day after I got it the trouble started. Back to the dealer and he replaced 2 plug wires and 3 coil packs he said.  2 days later the CEL was back.  So I took it to the Chevy dealer and he diagnosed it as multiple failed injectors, showed me the printout showing failures in both banks. He replaced all 8 injectors under warranty, plus the fuel lines for each side.  Picked it up today and it’s idling smooth and no CEL. Keeping my fingers crossed it’s fixed.  Anyone else have success with changing fuel injectors?

Been a few months since this was replied to but figured I'd resurrect it after reading the whole thing.

2018 5.3 6 speed pushing 2k miles. Truck chuggles accelerating up on ramps and has a rough idle when cold. The chuggle / misfire feeling I'm guessing was never actually solved? I have the range afm delete and have tried premium gas / catch can etc to try and get it smoothed out with no luck. Smashing the go pedal is the only thing that makes it smooth. With the rough idle, I can actually hear random thumps with the radio off and it shakes my antenna. Once it's warmed up it's not nearly as bad. Is that normal too? I'm not into playing the dealer fix it game where they tell me they can't replicate crap or have no fix, already been there for my bouncy headlights that I'll be living with.

Overall I still love the truck simply because my mom always had a Silverado growing up and you know..... nostalgia.....With my 5 year low interest loan I can break even in a year if I need to trade so it's not a huge deal, but I'd like to have it for at least 2 years trouble free and minimal annoyances.

Thanks

Yeah, I'm interested in any additional "solidifying" or anchoring of the whole accelerator parts to whatever they can be anchored to.

Any more input, pics or comments on what this might actually be referring to??

The pic I posted is sideways but you can see the zip tie that holds the pedal up tight.

So the tie you added is the black one that runs "up" and over the metal hanger, and then over and around the entire housing?

And does this still allow the pedal fore/aft positioning, or do you not have the adjustable pedals?

No the pedal won't move now but I don't move them anyway. It really made a difference in my truck

Ok, so it's basically "locked down" in the highest/most-towards-your-seat position, it sounds like?

I have mine all the way out/away (I'm 6'5") so will this method probably not do as much for me?
