Level kit with wheel help.

Recommended Posts

Guys I need some insight. I have '12 Sierra 4x4. I was dead set on the RC 2.5" level, 18x9 +1 offset wheels with a 275/70r18(33.19x10.8) tire. I anticipated having to do some trimming.

Well after talking with a mechanic friend he has kind of talking me out of the 2.5, he put a lot of emphasis on the strain of the front drivetrain due to change in the geometry.

So part of me is thinking okay I'll just do the 2", should I expect major trimming with those sizes?

He's got me all nervous about my ball joints/CVs

Any spacer leveling kit over 2" on an '07+ GM 1500 causes the upper a-arms to hit the droop stops on the frame as the suspension tops out. It puts stress on the upper ball joints every time the suspension tops out and it also decreases the down travel of the suspension.

My '08 had a 2" leveling kit with 275/65/18s (32/11.5 measured size) on 18x9 +12 wheels. The tires rubbed the fender liners at the back of the fenders. I had to remove one retainer on each side and tuck the liners behind the fender lip.
