2002 4l65 into my 2007 avalanche?

Recommended Posts

So I've been reading the differences between the various 4l60/65/70 transmissions and it's still not entirely clear to me if a 2002 4l65 trans will fit into my '07 avalanche. Have the opportunity to pick one up cheap to rebuild since my current 4l60 has almost 180k on it. I'm pretty sure the answer is yes, it will work but I want to be sure. I know the 65 is only slightly different than the 60 but the model year changes in both transmissions is what's confusing me. And yes the 65 is a 4x4 trans

The '65 is identical to the '60 in every way except for the addition of a 5 gear output planetary opposed to 4 gear. The 2007 T43 controller will make it shift exactly as the 60 did. Unless you need to drive the truck while you are rebuilding, why not just rebuild yours?

It's my primary family vehicle so gonna keep driving it for now. Trans is still holding and working well but it's a big unknown. The 65 I found is only $65 so for that price it's hard to pass up. I'll slowly rebuild and replace before it fails as I need to do the rear main anyways.

So I realized after buying it that the '02 trans doesn't have an input speed sensor. Now I guess you can upgrade it to have one but my ultimate question is, can my truck run without. Clearly in I believe pre-'07 trucks they didn't have them. If I have to upgrade it then I will.

Your abs and stabilitrac won't work without the ISS. You might be able to turn that stuff of with a Tech2, but I haven't tried it myself.
