For those with headers on 6.2 - opinions?

Recommended Posts

Hi there I've tried researching a bit but since it's Friday i figure I'd just ask here- I'm looking for opinions about catted or catless headers. Got a corsa sport catback with 3rd cat delete and have narrowed down longtubes to ARH, kooks, and stainless works. This is on a 6.2. My question is what would the biggest difference be between the catted and catless headers obviously besides noise and a tune? Or is that it? :D wouldn't mind going louder but don't wana have to much pop n rasp going on that ory pipes usually make. I do love the slight rumble at idle right now. Would appreciate any feedback thanks!

I've had headers and custom cat back exhaust on both my 13 and now my 17 Sierra 6.2. I went with kooks and looks green cats on both.

Its substantially louder vs no headers. On the 13 it added some rasp and crackle and pop (turbo SS muffler) and on my 17, it made it quite a bit louder (40 series muffler) but not obnoxious.

The fit was bang on on both and took about 3-4 hours to put each on. Not a huge job.

Where are you from do they have emissions testing? One reason to go hi flow cats.

Personally I would choose stainless works. Have them on my camaro and they are great.

Live in Pa so no don't need green cats . Only reason I'm thinkin catted is because I want it to sound like a half vette/ half truck. Just one bad half breed:D i little a little pop n rattle but I think with a corsa itl be a little much to go full catless ..

Nice Government is there a reason u went with green cats? Not to throw a code?

The kooks greens are their high performance ones. They flow really well and I got it for the same price as a non cat mid pipe. We don't have emissions testing here but I just got my BB tuner yesterday and I could tune out the cats but figured why bother. And extra 2-3 go isn't worth it.

I have the same setup as you right now ( Corsa with 3rd cat delete) and im going to do ARH with no cats. This video helped me decide to go Corsa and ARH. I LOVE the sound of this setup. He is running cats but i live in WY so i wont have to worry about emission crap. I also will be doing a Blackbear tune before i do headers and ill have him tune for the ORY after i install the ARH.

LOL, last time I'll post this as I don't want to sound like a broken record and be too annoying.

if you like that sound above, you should get cats. Without cats, it's raspy. Cat's aren't just emissions, they control sound A LOT.

You will get a fuel smell either way you go. Catless a little more so

OP,

I lean towards is this for DD or weekend vehicle.

I have had mild steel & SS headers on a few of my vehicles, outside of it being louder with a little more power esp... with a tune, GM's do like headers. I will no longer add headers on my daily driver vehicle/s, weekend car/truck sure. I have used ARH in the past, no doubt great company and great products. In my experience's SS headers seem speed up the process of front & rear O2 heaters failing prematurely around every 12 months, after that you start to get rear O2 codes for inefficiency for high flow cats... yes even the green cats. I understand you can "tune out" as they say, I am a HP Tuners user myself. Lastly I never liked the thinnest of the SS heaters they always sound like they are leaking, its just the exhaust notes after they leave the cylinder head. It bugged me so much I would do cold starts with smoke and soapy water, no external leaks they just sound like they leak all the time at idle, at part throttle. I am very happy with my cast iron, I would even install a supercharger with factory manifolds, its cat back only for my DD's.

that's my 2 cents

thanks camaro91, it is a weekend driver. Proly wont put more than 10k a year on anyway. when you say SS headers are you talking about stainless works? I will probably go with ARH since there are a few vids on youtube with corsa paired with ARH and sounds legit. I'll plan on getting longtube ARH or KOOKS (depending on which I can get cheaper) with cats. If I ever wana take em off I'm sure a good garage could get it done. I do respect my neighbors at least a little in the mornings hah!

SS = stainless steel any brand. I prefer ARH myself, I would never buy stainless steel works.

Good gawd that sounds amazing! I have the Corsa as well with no other mods and sometimes I think it's borderline too loud.
