Tons of great information in this thread.  Thanks Phil!!!

I saw the post about 1aauto parts, and their customer service.  I've been trying to find a set of used DQS mirrors through eBay and using a national salvage yard search engine, but I'm not having any luck for a pair, and their cost isn't far off from the dealer cost.  Sooooo...

If I were to buy the set of mirrors (P/N: 1AMRP01786) from 1aauto, what additional DIY harness wiring would I need?  I'm comfortable repining connectors as needed.  My truck is a 2016 Chevy 2500HD LTZ that has the DL3 and A45 RPO codes on the glove box sticker, so I have all the same features as the DQS, except for the parking lamps.

Jim,

You would need my DIY Kit to modify your stock harnesses to accommodate the tow mirrors. Since you’re an LTZ, you need to first remove the puddle lamp circuits from BOTH sides, and the Dimming Circuits from the driver side. Once you do that, you’ll free up slots to land the DIY Kit wires.

Now - since you’re looking at 1AMRP01786, this mirror has the bonus Puddle lamp. By default, this puddle lamp lands onto slot 1 of the 18-pin. If you keep it this way, you can leave the puddle lamp circuit as is on your harnesses. Slot 6 is an used slot and you can land the running Lamp circuit there, there correspond that to pin 11 on the door jamb connector.

We can take this offline, via PM or text if you had. But certainly doable.

Well it seems as if even the dealer can't seem to get DL3 to DQS mirrors correct. Just bought a new Silverado LTZ CCSB this past week and went ahead and ordered the towing mirror upgrade as I have very little time to DIY during this time of year, the wife has me spending all my free time making Christmas gifts. Picked up the truck from the dealer and didn't realize that neither the puddle lamps nor the power fold are working correctly until I got home. And I have to be in Miami Sunday and can't take it back to the dealer and have them  fix it.

I did get dealer to give me the factory DL3 mirrors back and may consider putting them on my wife's truck (2016 LT CCSB) sometime after the new year....work permitting. From what I have read all the functions that are in the DL3 mirrors are in the existing wiring harnesses that are in the truck from the door to the cab are present but the internal wiring harness in the door needs to be changed out. Shouldn't need the RZY harness at all ( I hope ). All I would need is the new harnesses from pgamboa  and a new power mirror switch for the power fold option. Please correct me if I am wrong.

And I'm still pissed at the dealer, power fold would have come in super handy parking in Miami.

I see this time and time again and why most come to me for advice for this upgrade. I’ve dissected over 500 individual harnesses over the last 1-1/2 years.

Are you certain that the mirrors you bought for your truck are DQS? Without changing harnesses, they have power folded. You should have retained reverse tilt, mirror memory, heat and power adjust. Turn Signal should have worked too. The front facing Amber running lights will appear to be working but are actually working as “Puddle Lamps” (the lamps that shined downward on your DL3s). Puddle Lamps and Running Lamps operate differently.

I can help you with both trucks and the necessary harnesses. Swap harnesses in both with mine, add the power fold sketch in hers, should be good to go.

If you Tow Mirrors don’t Power Fold, I’m afraid they are DPN. One way to be certain is the inspect pins 4 and 18 in the mirror side connector. These are the fold in/fold out circuits. My guess is they are missing.

Let me know if you have any other questions. Feel free to PM me.

I looked at the part numbers for the mirrors on the receipt and they are definitely DPN's per GM's part number. They also charged for a wiring harness set. Is there a specific GM part number for the DQS mirrors? All I can seem to find is DPN's. Need ammunition to throw at the dealer as I specifically asked for the towing mirrors to have all the features of the DL3 mirrors on the truck.

After the first of the year I will be looking to change out my wife's old DL8 mirrors on her 16 LT to the DL3's that were taken off my truck. Christmas is taking a big chunk out of the wallet this year.

These are the current part #s for DQS.

DQS Power Fold - Chrome Towing Mirror
Part # 84041609 - Driver
Part # 84228892- Passenger (Gas)
Part # 84228894 - Passenger (Diesel - K40)

Do you have the harness part#s? If they got the correct harnesses, then you should have all the lighting circuits working. Turn Signal, Cargo Lamps, and Running Lamps. Power adjust and heat should work. If these features don’t work, then they didn’t provision the correct harnesses.

Thank you kind sir.

Per the invoice the harness kit they used was #23387133 the RZY harness which sounds to me like they had no earthly clue what the heck they were doing. If they even bothered to install it that is.

YIKES!  They quoted a RZY Harness??!!  That is ONLY needed for 2014 and some early 2015 trucks.  OMG.  If your amber lights and/or cargo lights are not working, they didn't change the door harness.  I would ask them for this RZY harness.  They charged you for something your truck already had.  SMH.

PM me with your truck details and can get you setup with a DIY Kit.

I’ll also need to know what kind of mirrors you’re are installing as well. Please leave as much details in your PM as you can.

Let me start by saying I have a 2015 Denali 2500HD. I had the plain black tow mirrors. Non power fold

Just blinker in glass I now have the chrome Power Fold new style with rear cargo lights and parking lamp leds.

My truck was built in August 2014. I bought it last July and have been searching how to do this ever since . Every forum there is,been to dealers - no luck or not a straight answer. Have to have truck reflashed or not , this option won't work or that one etc.. That is until I came across this forum and PHIL. Phil took the time to do the research and has it down pat. I now have the mirrors I wanted with every option working as suppose to I got his harness and after several texts to determine what else I needed I had to get the GM RZY Harness. It was a pain but PHIL is there for you every step of the way. You pretty much in most cases have to upgrade your harness anyway so why not get PHILS'S. I'll tell you why cause all this re harnessing is a pain but having Phil as a go to guy to answer any question or problem that comes up means everything. And the feeling of when your done and EVERYTHING works , well it's all worth it. No taking to dealer for re flash. All works Phil even sent diodes and detailed photos and instructions on how to make cargo lights come on in reverse. Simply put without PHil I would still be searching

And still wanting these mirrors. Thanks a bunch Phil.

Hi folks!

I have pretty much the same truck as this member.

2015 Sierra Denali 2500HD with a Duramax (yes temp sensor in the mirror)

Black Towing mirrors without power fold, without back up lamp  and without parking lamp. Basically a truck built in 2014 with the old gm towing mirrors... Thanks GM for putting these on my 80 000$ (CAN) truck...

I d like to buy all that can be sourced via pgamboa to achieve a setup with all the the options possible, meaning; power fold, back up lamp, parking lamp, parking lamp that blinks on the front of the mirror.

If you have a 2014, be prepared for additional work ahead of ya.  GM didn't include the Tow Mirror Lighting circuits at the door jamb, going into the cabin.  This is were the RZY Jumper Harness comes into play.  This jumper harness, part # 23387133 needs to be sourced and installed first.  My door harnesses are ineffective until this part is done.  On the very first post of this thread, I show a video I made that describes this RZY Jumper Harness install.  The cargo light circuit landing from the door jamb, terminates in a junction box in the driver side footwell.  It goes on the bottom side of this box, which means you'll have to remove the box in its entirety.

For the Running Lamps, this also gets landed in the door jamb, but goes through the firewall and under the fuse block.

Installing the RZY is a pain in the butt, but doable.  Once this is installed, then my custom harnesses become PnP.

What a roller coaster this thread is! (just read everything to get my self up to speed)

  1. Is there any update on 1A/AM Auto? and did they raise their pricing?
  2. I am looking to buy and would like the power fold with the puddle lamp tow mirrors, but I don't want to head strait into problems.
    I have a 14' built in 13' with DL8s.

looks like I need:

  • RZY Harness (will verify pins are missing before purchasing)
  • diode mod with 1N4004
  • custom harness (not sure if ill go with the full or diy just yet)
  • new door switch
  • driver/passenger mirrors from a source TBD (open for suggestions)

Everything you wrote looks good except I’m not sure about the “diode mod” and as for the pins in the cabin side harness you’ll most likely not have them.....

pgamboa will help you out!!!
