Phil,

I have private messaged you recently, and I want to thank you for your help and service you do for everyone here!

I have a 2015 GMC Sierra SLT crew cab 5.3L with DL3 mirrors.  I want to upgrade to DQS power folding mirrors with my present options?

I do not have the RPO - AFV code in my glove box, but per your instructions I checked the pins 9, 11 & 41.  They are all present.

I want to use this mirror from 1aauto:  https://www.1aauto.com/mirror-pair/i/1amrp01786?f=1106733&y=2015#product-description-tab

1aauto says it will work as a plug and play unit.  They are guaranting it will work.  Is this true to get the functions on this mirror to all work correctly?  I am a little dubious.  Do I need your harnesses?

Wish GM would make this upgrade a little easier!

Their mirrors will NOT be plug and play out of the box.  This 1AMRP01786 has the "bonus" puddle lamp.  This puddle lamp is wired just like a puddle lamp as the DL3 Mirrors come on your SLT.  The problem, is that the clearance lamp is NOT pinned.  Clearance Lamps and Puddle Lamps are landed on the same slot # 1.  What I do is pinned this correctly and build a harness around that repin that it makes it plug and play by the time it gets to you.  Hope this helps.

In most mirror upgrades, you will need door harnesses, and if you go with an aftermarket set (especially the power fold ones from 1A Auto), they will need customization themselves.

The caps from 1A Auto, AM Auto and GM OEM just pop off.  There are videos are out there that suggest to remove the glass.  This method allows the housing to be loosen to gain easier access to the caps.  If I can get 5 free minutes...LOL.. I can make short video on this.  Please be sure to use bezel removal tools as the caps on tight.

I did the same and bought a set of damaged mirrors JUST so I can try this with minimal risk.  The damaged mirrors still ran me $150.  LOL.  But I do it all so that others can benefit from the knowledge.

***UPDATE***

I am having extreme difficulty with AM Auto Parts and in fulfilling a defective mirror. This would be the 2nd set they’ve sent that have an issue. They state due to incorrect installation. As many of you know, I know what I’m doing when it comes to mirrors.

At one point, they stated incompatibility and incorrect fitment, then refused the return/RMA. At this point, unless Tony from @1ATony can help with the defective part I need, I cannot continue to promote this product or brand.

Sorry guys. I know there are MANY of you that are extremely satisfied with this product, but the Customer Service and the customer experience thus far on Warranty Fulfillment is just unacceptable for me to continue to promote.

Please know that I get absolutely NOTHING for promoting a specific product or brand and provide the service of what I do based on personal experiences.

For anyone that is looking to upgrade to Tow Mirrors, at this point, I am going to say OEM until further notice. If you want to purchase a set from 1A Auto or AM Auto, you will do so at your own risk and responsible for warranty fulfillment.

I am only trying to do the right thing for a member who entrusted me to provide a solution for him. Unfortunately, we have gone through two sets of mirrors and still do not have a fully working solution.

I know both companies will do just fine without me promoting them, but I just can’t promote a company that doesn’t have the same level of support as I do, or a difficult warranty fulfillment process.

Sorry guys.

I say go OEM anyways. It works best for the truck in my opinion.

Cant wait to install the pair I purchased with Mr. Gamboa trusty wiring harness.

Thought I would give an update on my continuing upgrade saga.

Story so far... 2017 2500 LTZ Midnight. Came with DL3 mirrors. Dealer agreed to remove and install DQS mirrors. DPN were installed because ADI claims a DQS install cannot be done.

Update:

Heard from the dealer today. Service manager has been working hard to resolve this situation. They have the TSB I sent them which covers 2015 and 2016 models. They had several conversations with ADI and "Partech" about the mirrors. While they now admit the mirrors CAN be ordered, they claim there is no way to install them. While they acknowledge the TSB, they claim it does not apply to "new" vehicles. (Again, if anyone can show me documentation that covers 2017 trucks, it would be greatly appreciated).

I'm tired of arguing this. They claim the mirrors are $700 each (although I see them on many authorized parts sites for around $500 each). I proposed they get me those mirrors in exchange for the DPNs they already installed. They can get me one with a GM credit based on other problems I have had. They are going to the sales dept to see if they will cover the cost of the second mirror.  I don't know how much luck I will have getting them to honor they DQS paperwork they provided. I might consider small claims court if necessary.

I told them I would install the DQS myself. I'm really hoping the process is as easy as people here say it is. Maybe I can get them to not reassemble the door panel when they remove the old mirrors. I would still rather find a dealer willing to do it.

The whole process (along with some other, unrelated issues on my truck) has left such a bad taste. I totally regret this truck purchase and am counting the days until I sell it. Chevy really needs to get their act together. This mirror upgrade should be a simple thing.

If anyone knows of someone in the New York area who can do this install, please contact me. If you can recommend a better after-market mirror, I'm open to that as well. It shouldn't be damn frustrating to do a simple thing.

Edited to add: There's also another factor. What if they are right? I could go through all this and the mirrors will not work! Can anyone confirm they have upgraded to DQS on a 2017 truck?

I have a 2017 GMC Sierra SLE Elevation Edition that came from the factory with DL8 mirrors. That is non power fold, heated and power adjust.

I just installed a pair of factory DQS power fold tow mirrors last weekend.

The answer to your question is YES you can add DQS mirrors on a 2017.  I had to modify my door harness but with a bit of research on this forum and a lot of help from pgamboa it works.  I had to install a wire each for the clearance lamp, signal lights and cargo lamp circuits plus I had to splice in a ground wire.  I also had to buy the proper mirror adjust/mirror fold switch assembly from my dealer (a week and a half wait).

So I have the power fold function, power mirror adjust, heated glass (defrost), signal, clearance and cargo lights.

I cant comment about mirror memory or mirror tilt in reverse as my truck don’t have those features.

Thanks for the information. Much appreciated.

I am currently waiting for a call back from the sales manager. Service says they can get me one mirror with the credit (which shouldn't have to be used on the mirror they owe me). The sales manager has refused to provide the other mirror, so I have to speak with him directly.

If he confirms this, I will probably take my paperwork and go to small claims court to make them live up to their agreement. Insane that is has to come to this. Having confirmation that this will work on a 2017 model (latest dealer/ADI claim is it will work on 2015/2016, but not 2017 or newer) really helps.

One more question...

I had the service manager send me the price breakdown for mirrors/harness that would need to be ordered. It leaves me a little confused.

The part numbers mostly line up with what Phil has already confirmed:

84228892 (Passenger Mirror)

84071609 (Driver Mirror)

84125571 (Driver Harness) - already installed with the DPN mirrors

84125561 (Passenger Harness) - already installed with the DPN mirrors

Then there is a 5th item:

23387133 - "Camper Mirror Harness"

What is this extra harness for? Do I need it? Phil has a YouTube video discussing this harness, but it seems it applies to 2014/2015 models and not a 2017.

Obviously, I need the two mirrors. What about the extra harness? I thought the DQS would be all I need with the two harnesses that have already been installed.

You will not need 23387133. This jumper harness is for 2014 and early 2015 trucks.

Thanks. I thought that was the case, but want to make sure since it is on the dealer quote for parts needed. Seems like I win the prize for "most clueless dealer."

I'm getting a quote from an auto body shop I know to install everything. Combined with the dealer paperwork, that will give an amount to list on the small claims court form. It's now three months this has been dragging on. I'm pretty sure it will all be resolved just by the time I am ready to trade this truck in for a new one. :)
