Ahh, I see... I kinda had my heart set on tow mirrors because I like the way they look, I don’t necessarily need them or anything but I also don’t want them to shake or be less sturdy in car washes or anything. I found a set that seem to be fine on Amazon for under $200, then there is another set for $250 that may be a bit better built. Would DL3 be plug n play though you think?

DL3 Mirrors are completely different than Tow Mirrors. DL3 mirrors are the premium GM OEM smaller mirrors that have power fold.

Gambia, I'm looking to do this mod myself but I cannot locate the actual pins that into the plastic connector. Do you have a part number or supplier where I could get them.

Thanks

I'm not sure if I'm posting this properly but here goes..... You can have the brand new textured black caps from my tow mirrors if you'll cover shipping. Phil put the chrome caps on mine while he had em.

I ordered the DL8 - DL3 harnesses and they worked GREAT!

All I had to do was find some DL3 mirrors and a power folding mirror switch and it was plug and play from there. The puddle lamp diode provided was super simple to install thanks to the easy instructions included.

I HIGHLY recommend this upgrade to anyone with DL8 mirrors.

What is the puddle lamp diode for?

To get the puddle light to work isn't it just a matter of wiring up pin 3 on the x500 connector to the appropriate pin on the mirror connector?

Is the proper (factory) operation of the puddle lamp for it to come on whenever the dome light comes on?

For 2014 trucks, there is a known issue with Puddle Lamp circuit. So even when pin 3 is pinned and wired correctly, the BCM only sends 3v to the Puddle lamp. So the “puddle lamp diode” workaround is to use a diode between the Puddle Lamp and Dome Lamp. They the Puddle Lamp will behave just like the dome lamps.

Some get Puddle and Cargo lamps confuse or interchange those terms. So one may say “Puddle Lamp diode” and refer to the “Cargo light on with Reverse Lamp” diode mod.

I have a 2015 Silverado 1500 LT/Z71 that originally came with the DL8 mirrors. I bought a set of the DQS Tow Mirrors off eBay, a set of harnesses and a new switch from pgamboa. Took a couple hours on a nice Saturday afternoon to install. I could not be happier with the results. Everything was plug and play. Everything works exactly as I expected it too. pgamboa is extremely knowledgeable on this subject and explained exactly what I needed to look for in my existing wiring and sold me the correct harnesses and switch that made this swap so easy. Thanks Phil.

Awesome write up, and thanks for the help in ordering what I needed and along through the process of installing. Definitely the most teadous job I've recently done. But I am glad to finally have my tow mirrors back. Here's a couple pictures of them working. Shows the running lights, turn signal, and the spotlight.

Thanks again pgamboa

Next will be my flush mount reverse lights in my bumper. Debating on tapping into the spotlight trigger wire and tieing them in with the reverse lights, instead of just having them come on with the cargo lights.

Another project for another day. Any suggestions or ideas on that let me know. d2d1636a8f3b20297589e6c73fa2518b.jpgd6d3953775caebf34ca497d24ee9c418.jpgba6186d6d406bdb45cf94be3a54fa468.jpg
