I was reluctant to ask another question about these mirrors as there are so many already, but here goes! We are going cross country in August, and to Alaska in 2018 towing our 36 foot 5th wheel. I have a 2015 Chevy 2500HD LTZ CC 4WD gasser. I have the small mirrors, DL3 that have heat, power adjust, power fold, memory, auto dim, in glass turn signals, puddle lamps, and reverse tilt. I must have trailer towing mirrors before I make these long distance trips. The question (finally!) is, can I buy GM mirrors that will be plug and play, without changing the wiring harnesses? I know there is an additional hole required. Will I need to have the computer control flashed?

Thanks for listening.... any help is appreciated!

No sir. There is not a mirror that will be Plug and Play if you keep the stock harness. The reason being is because GM shares certain slots on the door harness connector based on the mirror type. The DL3 mirrors uses Pin 1 for puddle Lamps and Pin 2 for dimming. On Towing Mirrors, Pin 1 is Cargo while Pin 2 is the Park Lamps.

So that means I'll lose puddle lights and dimming, but gain cargo lights and those front marker lights.... is that correct, Phil?

That is absolutely correct. There is an aftermarket mirror by 1A Auto that another member purchased and sent to me for the purposes of making a Plug and Play Harness. Part # 1AMR01786. It has Turn, Cargo, Park AND puddle lamps. Since towing mirrors don't come with puddle lamps and these did, it required some customization on the mirror's connector end and some additional customization to the harness end using and empty pin slot for that puddle lamp.

Pgamboa. Do I buy the mirror through you? Or through 1a? Then make wire purchase through you?

I don't stock the mirrors :). You'd have to purchase through 1A directly and have them ship to me. Once I receive them, I'll build a harness to make them Plug and Play. The mirror customization is an additional $100 (if needed). Harness set is $225. If no mirror connector customization is needed, I'll refund the $100. You'd also cover the shipping cost for the mirrors from me to you.

Let me know if you have any other questions.

Would also need to know your trucks details to ensure there aren't any other pre-requisites.

Just completed this upgrade with Phil's wiring harnesses, which made the whole process incredibly simple. Power fold, turn signals, and puddle lamps all work great!

Thanks for the feedback! I take great pride in ensuring that all members have the information needed to make this upgrade successful. Whether one buys a PnP harness or DIY Kit from me, or just simply needing information on the process.

So with a DL8 code and the regular small mirrors stock I can buy the larger towing mirrors with power adjust, heat, and blinker and its just plug and play, correct?

For the most part... yes. 2014 and some early 2015 will have and additional requirements.

Mine is a 2016 2500HD. The stock mirrors don't have the signal, but on my 12, it worked in the new mirrors too. Don't know why they had to complicate things....

GM really did complicate it. I spent 6 months figuring things out and can make it Plug and Play.

Now I'm confused, lol. Are you saying that we need your harness to be plug and play or the factory harness is good to go? I am also interested in going from DL8 to the DPN.

Where is the best place to buy the GM DPN mirrors?

Lol. There is a lot to consume here....

For anyone wanting to upgrade to Towing Mirrors, this IS a supported GM Upgrade and there is a path to accomplish this using OEM Factory harnesses. If you are looking to go from DL8 to DL3, this is NOT a supported upgrade and will require a custom PnP harness from me.

If you follow the Vehicle Acceptability for Retrofit Guide, it will give you the harness part #s needed for the upgrade. I also make the equivalent harness sets to the OEM ones. The difference between buying the OEM harness and buying my equivalent harness is that I offer a $ back guarantee if they don't work for any reason. if you source the harnesses yourself, I suggest looking for a $ back policy if they don't work. I also offer a core refund of $40 for sending me your stock harnesses so I can continue providing this service for other members.

Now....IF you are 2014 or an early 2015 Trucks, there is additional work above and beyond just changing the door harnesses. This is where the additional jumper or RZY harness (Part # 23387133) comes into play. This is additional wiring for the door jamb connector (that goes inside the cabin) to complete the circuits into cabin. On all 2014 and some early 2015, the towing mirror lighting circuits are missing.

Hope this helps. I have observed WAY too many people get misdirected or lead down the wrong path on this GM supported upgraded with the wrong part #s etc... So I make it easy for ya. Buy my harness set, it will work. If it doesn't, I refund your $. I have helped over 100 members here achieve this upgrade and have made over 200 harnesses with each harness built documented.

Thanks! :)
