Newbie here...long thread but I've read much of it and communicated with Phil a bit via PM about his harnesses and mirror options but decided to bring some of that out in the open so that others who find this thread might benefit from some a more recent consolidation of options.

Anyway...

I have a 2017 Silverado 1500 LT with DL8 mirrors, and want tow mirrors.  Communicated with Phil about getting DQS mirrors as the fold option is attractive and I like having the truck be OE, but they are pretty darn spendy...then thought I might get my need met with for the lowest price with manual DPN mirrors.

Then doing further research and finding Phil's Youtube channel, found the A1 Auto 1AMRP01786 mirror and found his comparison video with the DPN mirrors very informative.  Those mirrors would give me power fold and additional lighting features for only a small premium over DPN, but a significant discount compared to DQS.

I've also seen a post upthread about a guy that found mirrors from AM Auto that appear to be identical to the A1 Auto 1786 mirrors for $100+ less.

Finally, I've come across Boost Auto Parts and they appear to offer a mirror similar to the A1 Auto 1786 in features, but slightly customizable.  They also have their own 'plug and play' wiring system to get lights to work, but it seems to be a less clean option than Phil's harnesses.

I've tried to weed through this thread and others on the forum, but since this is *the* thread thought I'd ask here: anybody who has used the A1 Auto tow mirrors have any issues with them - reliability of features, vibration while driving, etc?  Same question for anybody else who has used the Boost mirrors or AM Auto mirrors.

If I can save a few hundred bucks over GM DQS mirrors and get similar features I'd LOVE that, but don't want to sacrifice quality or usability.

Thanks!!!

Let me add some clarification here.

1A Auto and AM Auto Mirrors are the same exact mirrors when you order the equivalent part #s. If the mirror says “Memory” then it is the 01786 model. Any other part # from either 1A Auto or AM Auto with “Memory” in the description will be the same 01786 but may come with different caps (chrome versus black, chrome with temp sensor or black with temp sensor).

Boost Auto Mirrors, while they just released power Fold, they do not support Memory. So keep that in mind.

Sorry I sent this twice. Noticed I did not check the "notify me of replies" button.

Hi. New member here. I am confused as to why I cannot just unplug the DL3 mirrors and plug in the DQS mirrors on my 2018 GMC Sierra 1500 CC SB SLT Prem + without removing and/or changing the wiring harnesses. Both would have the same features so why not make the mirrors plug work in the existing truck plug so harnesses do not need to be messed with??? Seems like it should be a no brainer.

This is because GM shares the same slots for different options.

For example.. the turn signal will work fine, along with power adjust, heat, and any memory options.

The running light will behave as your puddle lamp instead of a true running lamp. This means it will only come at night when you unlock with the key fob as opposed to follow your headlights.

Lastly, your cargo lights will not work because on the driver side, slot #2 is used for one of the dimming circuits and on the passenger side, not present at all.

So if you are ok with a partially working tow mirror, you can plug it in.

Because GM is pissed because they lost a little known law suit where they were trying to charge us a monthly fee to use their proprietary computer technology, ie the BCM.

Who knows how much they spent in R & D to make it as difficult as possible to change anything on our trucks ?

I just scored some free DL3 mirrors off a a 2018 2500, please tell me they will work on my 2017 1500.

The mirrors will work. But you’ll need custom harnesses to get all the lighting functions to work.
