PGamboa strikes again! Couldn't be happier with the harness he created for me. I went from DL8 mirrors to tow mirrors very easy thanks to the help from Phil. This guy knows his stuff, he's super helpful, great communication, and gets you what you need FAST! Thanks again Phil!

Thanks for the feedback! Looking forward to new pics of your 1A Auto mirrors.

I may be new to the site but add me to the growing list of PGamboa supporters!

Luckily we live in the same city.

I drove my truck up to his place yesterday (Saturday) and we got my DL8 to DL3 conversion done in about an hour.

Well, actually, he did most of the work and I tried my best not to be a pain in his ass.

LOL!!!!

My main reason for the conversion was to have the power folding capability so I can more easily pull into my garage. (damn center pillar!)

The working turn signals and puddle lamps were just icing on the cake!

As we were doing the install of the new harnesses, he was pointing out some of the little "tricks and tips" he`s learned from doing these conversions.
So, whatever advice he gives, listen to it!

Once again, solid dude, buy with confidence and 2 thumbs up from this member!

LOL.. You were not a PITA at all! It was a pleasure actually. Just didn't want to get caught off guard with the storm. You are the first WT conversion and was really excited to see it all work!

Little off topic here but pgamboa, where did you get your LTZ tail lights and do you have a link to the harness you got from gen5diy? Looking at this link,

http://www.gen5diy.com/Chevrolet/Silverado/P-P-Harness13/LED-Taillight-Harness/LED-Taillight-Harness9/

it says you still need the 3 foot harness? Where can you get that at or is is the same harness on the non LED tail light models?

I got my LED tail lights from ebay. I was lucky that it also came with the harness. The harness sets are different in that the LT set will have 3 sockets for the Incan bulbs whereas the LTZ harness will have (1) Reverse and (1) main going into the taillights.

Here is a pic showing both harness types:adfefc4cf63e6707aa61ae9143e11c8f.jpg

PM if you think you want to perform this upgrade. I believe I have extra materials to make the equivalent Gen5DIY harness.

Worked fantastically and only took about 30 minutes per door. The quality of the harness upgrades is very professional as was the communications with Phil.

All I can say is I am glad I searched the topic long enough to find you.

Howzit Phil. I came across your videos on YouTube and you led me to this forum for more info. Read through this thread and I feel more confident now in upgrading my mirrors.

Specs:

2017 Silverado 1500, 5.3L flex, Crew Cab, LT, Texas Edition

Power adjustable mirrors

Manually folding

Goal:

Upgrade to DL8 mirrors with blinker in glass

-or-

Upgrade to black tow mirrors from 1Aauto with blinker in glass, puddle lamp, cargo light, and running amber LED's on the front.

(No need for power folding, auto dimming, or heat)

Please advise if goal is achievable with your custom made harnesses or DIY kits. Thanks in advance.

Hey there,

Glad you found me. 2017 has the exact same requirements for this upgrade. In your "Goal", you mentioned "upgrade to DL8 Mirrors with blinker in glass". Just so you know, those mirrors would be DL3. DL3 Mirrors have the Turn Signal, Heat, 4-way power adjust, power fold, auto dim**, and puddle lamps. Auto dim does have hardware dependencies and additional wiring, but doable.

I make custom Plug and Play harness for all mirror types. If you decide to go with DL3s, I have those ready to go and can ship within 24 hours. If you go with 1A Auto mirrors, we have to take a little caution as their mirror connectors might have additional splicing or custom wiring work needed. I am finalizing a video review (as I write this actually) of a set of mirrors from 1A Auto. If you can provide me a link (via PM) and can take a look at them. If additional wiring is needed, I can perform that for you as a service so that they are plug and play by the time you get them.

First things first. Need to know what mirror set you would like to go with. Then we can go from there. This should be a really easy upgrade for you. In addition, you CAN get power fold if you choose.

Let me know what other questions, you've got.

Thanks!

Oops, I meant DL3 mirrors.

I am leaning more towards DL3 upgrade now with your comments on 1Aauto tow mirrors. Power fold is a nice option, but then would require me to install switches necessary for the function, a task that I am hesitant to take on.

Let me know what other questions, you've got.

1) What source do you recommend getting DL3 mirrors from?

2) Since I have color matched DL8 mirror caps, can I remove them and throw them on the DL3 upgraded mirrors?

Thanks!

If you want Power Fold, it is very easy to achieve. You'll be removing your door panel anyway, might as well as the function.

All you'll need to do is source the switch. Part # 23154702 (about $50). Here is a video on how to replace the switch. At the 15:17 mark, I show that in detail. This video actually covers the entire process of swapping mirrors and harnesses out.

https://youtu.be/hf6JQVZXfzU

As for swapping the mirror caps, you can remove your color matched ones off of your DL8 Mirror and put them the DL3s and make the swap. A video for that shown here.

https://youtu.be/SWm-_B91Tos

Lastly, you can find DL3 Mirrors for sale here on the forum by other members, ebay, or Craigslist. Any DL3 mirror set from 2014-2017 will work. Even if it came out of a Diesel truck, you'll be fine.

Let me know if you need anything else.
