Export Axle ID (pics)

Recommended Posts

Can you please help me ID this axle, it is from a 2002 Chevy Silverado 2WD for the mexican market, it has a 5.7 L31 engine as well, it's not a 10 Bolt, I know that for sure, it has rear disc brakes and bolt pattern is 6 x 5.5, I've tried with all the aftermarket vendors but nobody can tell what kind of axle it is, it says "SPICER" on the cover other than that it looks like a Dana 60 or Dana 44, the ratio is 3.42, but I want to change to a 4.10 and add a LSD or a locker to run 35" tires, right now it has 33" and it's kind of slow off the line.

It doesn't have a bill of materials number stamped on the tubes, the last resort is to open and find the numbers of the ring and pinion but I don't want to do that yet. I also posted this on another forum but nobody seems to know yet.

Thanks :sigh:

I think he meant RPOs. It's the list of option codes inside you glovebox. You will find some codes starting with "G". You can find several RPOs on this site under the "features" menu. The RPO code will tell you the gear ratio and whether it is a locker/limited slip. It won't likely say the manufacturer though.

Thats very interesting. That axle looks like a smaller Ford 10.25". The bolt pattern is wrong to be a 10.25" though, and a 10.25" has 12 bolts.

I'm not sure what it is, but I can tell you what its not:

1)Dana 30, 35, 44, 60, or 70

2)Ford 8.8", 9" or 10.25"

3)GM 10 bolt (7.5/7.62/8.5"), GM 12 bolt, GM 14 bolt (9.5/10.5")

4)Chrysler 8.25"

Does the axle not have a number stamped into the pumpkin? It doesn't look like there is an ID tag bolted onto the cover like usual either.

It has a tag with the axle ratio 3.42, you just can't see it on the picture, I've tried the dealer and can only confirm the axle ratio and that it is an open carrier, but they can't tell me if I can swap the ring and pinion, cause they only sell the stock ratio.

So that's why I need to know the axle model to shop for a LSD or locker and the 4.10 ring and pinion.

Thanks for your replies, anybody else? :sigh:

They do some wierd things down there, don't they! It looks to me like some sort of Dana 44 derivitive (Dana-Spicer is one company). Like those PFI 4.1L (250) straight 6 cylinders they used in the 1990's.
