Need Help With Rebuild on a 1986 305

Recommended Posts

I am going to rebuild my 305 that came in my 86 Blazer. Does anyone know of a good kit to use? Or a place where I can get the parts (without the kit) for a good price? I want to get forged internals so I can put a supercharger on there later. I plan on adding fuel injection eventually, but not for a while. Also, I want to bore it out to displace 327 ci, so what all is involved in that? Any ideas on tha compression ratio that would give me? And if I were to pay someone to do this, about how much could I expect to pay? I dont know if I want to spend the money on something I can possibly do myself with a few friends. I am relatively new to working on cars and dont know a whole bunch, but Im learning. Thank you for your help.

I knew that some 305 and 350 parts were interchangeable, but didnt know the rebuild kit was the same. I am looking to spend appx. $500 (w/o install) on a rebuild kit. Is that enough to get forged internals? Ive seen kits go for $200 to $300 without forged internals, so I dont know.

I have thought about gettting a crate engine, but I dont know what all I would need to make it fully functional. How much can be used from my current engine set-up? Plus, I want forged internals so I can supercharge it later on. What do you think would be the way to go? Rebuild or Crate engine? If I go crate engine I plan on going big (383 or big block) and I plan on doing it right the first time. With the rebuild, its fairly cheap and I think if I made it a 327 it would be better and easier. Im probably wrong and/or misinformed though.

Do you reccomend any rebuild kits or crate engines I should look at?? Thank you again. I appreciate all the help.
