8 lug to 6 lug conversion

So I need to replace the rear axel assembly in my 2005 chevy silverado. I can only seem to be able to find rear ends with 8 lug axels. So I was wondering if I could just replace the 8 lug axels with the 6 lugs that are already in my truck

 

Both rear ends have the same specs (GT5, with a G80 locker, 4:10, 14 bolt) it's just the the amount of lug nuts is different

No, 6 lug axle shafts are smaller in diameter then the 8 lug axle shafts
