"Engine power reduced" Fuel Pressure Too High?!? p228d

Recommended Posts

Yes. I've see a few different pictures online. The one in this before and after from another user on the site is it...

Sounds pretty throaty. It does give me a little drone (helicopter sound) at certain RPMs. Only when accelerating in v4 at low speeds though. Sounds fine on the freeway.

Glad to see you cleaned the engine compartment up! :-)

Did the cold air increase mileage? Power? The reason I ask is I did this to my 2003 6.0 and really didn't notice anything except I could clean my air filter and not have to replace it.

Unfortunate. These direct injection systems do worry me some. BMW was an early adopter and they had tons of high pressure fuel pump failures. And they're not cheap to replace.

Yeah they're pricey. A buddy of mine replaced his 3.5 Ecoboost HP fuel pump at 80k miles and the total was $850. Edited by HondaHawkGT

Hard to say. Temps have been below freezing so I'm generally getting less mileage. Truck barely gets warmed up by the time I get to work and roads are icy so I'm always running in Auto. Haven't been on the freeway much and foot is also a little heavier these days ;). Once it warms up I'll have a better idea and I'll be able to play around a bit more.

So I had all the same symptoms everyone is talking about. I got both p228d and p0089 codes. So I decided to go with the info I got here. I went with  the cheapest route. Changed the high pressure fuel rail sensor. It didn’t work so I changed the high pressures fuel pump and sure enough that fixed all my issues. It’s wasn’t too difficult took about 3 hours of labor.
